CHOCOLATE FACTORY reviews start pouring in...

A couple of reviews from test screamings (see how i did that?) of the, in my opinion, nightmarish-looking and unnecessary CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (another Tim Burton 're-imagining'...SIGH...remember when he made his OWN movies? That was fun...)have been popping up.

They're generally positive, which isn't a suprise. I'm sure the movie's just fine in a 'Tim Burtony' kinda way. Lots of bright colors and swirlies...Pale skin and sunk-in eyes...maybe a crooked old tree or two...YAWN...They're praising Johnny Depp's performance...Again, SHOCKER. Guy could sit there onscreen and cross his eyes and stick his tongue out while holding a sign that says "You're all a bunch of MORONS" and people would STILL praise the guy. Fine. Great. Good.

OH yeah...And Helena Bonham Carter is in it. She plays Charlie's mom. See, she's dating tim Burton (she's his baby-mama, actually). That's kind of par-for-course for Burton, too. Whomever he's involved with at the time has a part in the film. It's in his contract. When he was dating Lisa Marie (who, aside from her incredible breasts, is completely talentless) she was in ED WOOD, MARS ATTACKS, SLEEPY HOLLOW, provided a voice in THE WORLD OF STAINBOY and had a bit part in PLANET OF THE APES which is where Burton met and began dating Bonham Carter who has, in turn, since been in BIG FISH and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and provides the voice of the title character in THE CORPSE BRIDE.

Wanna get into the movies, ladies? Hook up with Tim burton.

ANYWAY, yeah, the reviews. Positive. They say it's funny although it MAY be a bit too creepy for the younger kids (judging by the trailers, it's too creepy for ME). They say Depp is fantastic (even though he looks like a drag queen all gussied up for Oscar Wilde day). They say the songs the Oompa Loompas sing (written by...GASP! SHOCK! SURPRISE! Danny Elfman) are fun and disturbing. They say the flashbacks of Willy Wonka's childhood really give you a bit of an insight to why he is the way he is. Because, you know, we all needed a psychoanalytical explanation as to why he loves chocolate so much....Christ...Do we really need a SECRET ORIGIN OF WILLY WONKA? The original didn't need to explain who Wonka was. You can tell from the beginning that he was a mischevious, creative, and lonely man. That was accomplished through the incredible showmanship of Gene Wilder.

Eh...Even though I STILL think that the very existence of this movie is unnecessary, I'll, of course, go see it. Maybe my opinion will change after actually SEEING the film. Who knows

OH! My favorite quote from one of the reviews?

"Overall, I think that this version will hopefully become a classic with the kids of this generation like the original version was for the generation that is now the parents of these kids going to see this."

Profound. Absolutely profound.
