Why can't the English teach their children how to speak?

Last night when Chris and I watched Jane Eyre, the classic line was, "She's a strapper, Jane. A real strapper."

Tonight I watched Mystery! on PBS, and the classic line was, "It's all a bit like Hamlet, isn't it? Hamlet's uncle killed his dad, and then er, went rumpy-pumpy with the Queen."

Rumpy-pumpy and strappers. There's either something really wrong here or really great.
