My sister got officially married today. So happy for her. It was just a courthouse wedding for health insurance reasons, and they'll have the official BIG wedding next summer, but she is so excited and happy. Quietly happy, which is perfect. She's not blinded by the "marriage" glow. She knows who she wants to be with, and she is stoked.

However.

Her marriage got me to thinking, about a few things that will be an absolute must if (when?!) I ever get married. They are stipulations that I've always been 100% certain of since I was a little girl, and nothing has ever made me change my mind in the 15+ years I've decided on them.

1) I will never change my last name. My future children are welcome to take my hubby's last name, but I knew at a very young age how proud of my last name/heritage I was and I'll never give it up. I would just walk around saying "oh it's (insert future last name here) officially, but it's actually KOENNECKE." So what's the point in changing it?

2) My wedding dress will be black. No ands, ifs, or virginal white dresses. Something I also knew at a young age. CLOSET GOTH COUTURE FOREVER.

And here are things I wish for upon marriage, but are negotiable if I married the right man.

3) Separate bank accounts. I'm totally down with a joint bank account. But I've been by myself for so long, and sometimes I spend my hard-earned money like an asshole. If I want to blow $250 on shoes at Solestruck, or $100 on new lingerie, I don't want a grand stand lecture on it. Don't worry, it didn't dip into our grocery or gas fund for the week, and it didn't drain our savings.

I have engagement ring stips too, but it seems too asshole-ish to post. So I won't. Hint: it's not gaudy, but it is the same color as my future dress.
