Studio portrait: palette knife

Aug 05, 2010 23:53

A painter friend of mine, Paul Behnke stopped by the studio today. The ensuing conversation touched on many things art-related, including the items that painters tend to have around them for a long time. I have a few things in my studio that I've had for a very long time, one of them being this paint-encrusted palette knife. I've probably had this one for at least 20 years. This is actually the second coating of paint that this palette knife has had. I peeled away most of the first coating maybe 11 years ago and let it go again.

The funny thing about this knife is that I don't use it in the application of paint to supports; I use it solely to mix paints.
