Pet health crisis

Just a heads up to those who know him, I had to take our 14 yr old cat Adus to the vet yesterday on an emergency visit. He'd been acting funny the last week or two and yesterday I noticed his breathing was labored so I rushed him in.

No major system failures, but heart & lungs aren't working to capacity because of anemia (possibly flea induced? we've had our worst infestation ever this year...)

They were hoping a high-protein diet might boost the blood a bit, but he didn't have much appetite last night and this morning, so I've taken him in for a transfusion. He's not out of the woods by a longshot, but if we can get him to pink up a bit, we're hoping heart & lungs should get better.

He's the old man in the family since Scruffy passed away a few years ago. Adus was given to me for my birthday in 1995 by Angelique, and he's traveled with Ashley & I through our various lodgings ever since... Castle Court, Sycamore, Haskell, Banks and finally Crestdale.

We stayed over at the inlaws last night and he slept with me (he's really low energy right now...) I've missed work & school yesterday and today, but I'm back at our house to make preparations for a proper flea bombing in hopes that will make things more bearable to come home to when he's ready. (The vet shaved him yesterday so they could give him a proper flea dip... now between the weight he's lost, the shorter hair, and his low energy, he seems so frail!)

I'll keep folks posted if the situation changes any.
