Questions like this generally elicit from me a boilerplate disclaimer about how I try not to have "guilty pleasures." If I take pleasure in something, why should I feel guilty about it, so long as it's not hurting anyone else? Life's too short and all that.
That said, occasionally I'll be introduced to a song, by American Idol or So You Think You Can Dance, say, or by the radio station playing at the gym, that's completely outside my usual wheelhouse and that I kind of want to tell myself I shouldn't like based on certain objective criteria--but that I totally end up loving anyway.
One such song is "Untouched" by The Veronicas. The lyrics are so inane! The breathiness (not to mention the video!) totally capitulates to a particular mainstream narrative of female sexuality! And yet... I dig the hook, and the beat, and... I actually find the video rather hot. And not 'cause of the dude with the emo hair and the 5 o'clock shadow. I suspect maybe the hand-holding is supposed to signify female solidarity? But really, I'm hard-pressed to say that it's not meant to be titillating as well.
Anyway, this is another un-embeddable video, but
you can watch it here.
