*I'm not sure I've got this right. What was on the set lists they'd placed on stage was Excursion, Fortune, and Old Brown's Daughter, but that's not what they played. They definitely finished off with Old Black Rum, though, which was a blast. That's what I get for not writing this down sooner!
Like I mentioned before, this was a free show, so the crowd was really interesting. In the lobby before the doors opened there was a mix between die hard fans and older folks in sweaters (who seemed confused as to why the die-hards were lining up at the doors). That's not to say the two can't overlap, but older folks in sweaters aren't normally the people you see at shows. One dear lady had on a sweatshirt that featured embroidered cats and the phrase "So Many Books, So Little Time." And hey, I like cats and books, too! Still, I was concerned, given that shows in general tend to be loud, and GBS shows tend to be bawdy.
Turns out I needn't have been concerned; anyone who found the music or volume or banter or lyrics not to their liking must have found their way out right quick, leaving the rest of us to enjoy the show. We got up front again, off on Murray's side this time. This was the boys' last show before a much-deserved day off, and as a result they were fairly giddy. One of my favorite moments (among many, to be sure) was when Sean found a disco ball backstage brought it out and proclaimed that Joplin must have the largest Christmas trees in all the land for such an enormous ornament to be necessary.
Here's an article on the show; I think it's rather dreadfully written, but that's just my opinion. ;) The pictures are great, though, and I think maybe I can spy my forehead in the one of the crowd, lol! Good times, good times.
