Just got back from my latest Weight Watchers meeting. I've lost 1.4 pounds since last week which makes me very happy. After three weeks of following the program fairly closely I've lost 9.4 pounds and I currently weigh 341.8 pounds. I'm on my way! Slow and steady wins the race. I just hope I'm rational about it if my weight should go up one week or another. Thank you to those of you who've voiced support for my efforts. It's really appreciated.
For those of you in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas, I have a couple concerts upcoming.
On Friday, October 10th the CSULB Concert Jazz Orchestra will be performing Stan Kenton's West Side Story album in its entirety. The concert will be at 8 PM in the William Link Theater on the campus of Cal State Long Beach. This band is tremendous and this show is not to be missed. We will be rocking the socks off of these incredibly difficult charts.

On Sunday, October 19th, I will tentatively be performing with Jennifer Keith and the High Society Boys at the fabulous Cicada Club in downtown Los Angeles. Jennifer Keith is one of the best singers I have ever heard, and certainly one of the best I have ever played for. She sings standards from the 1930s to the 1940s and beyond with a voice that reminds you of Peggy Lee but at the same time is uniquely Jennifer Keith. Doors open at 6 PM. No cover, but dinner reservations are recommended if you want to sit down. A warning, though, the food is rather pricey. It's delicious, but expensive.

On Friday, November 21st, the CSULB Concert Jazz Orchestra will again be performing in the Link Theater. Concert is at 8 PM.

Finally, on Thursday, October 16th and Thursday, December 4ththe CSULB Wind Symphony will be playing at Daniel Recital Hall on the campus of CSULB. This is a world-class wind ensemble under the direction of John Carnahan, one of the best conductors I have ever worked with. Both concerts begin at 8 PM.

Now for school stuff. I am really enjoying school. I think I'm starting to settle in. There's something to challenge me in every ensemble and I am thoroughly convinced I made the right decision coming here. However, there's a lot of drama here about seating in the ensembles. You can be "challenged" during the first week of school for the chair that you rightfully earned in audition, thereby making your audition invalid. This lead to some drama this semester. I think I'm ready to not be an undergrad anymore. I know I can do this and graduate as quickly as possible. Wish me luck. :)
