Author’s Note: You know how short some of the chapters were in part A? This is worse. One didn’t even fill a page (well, three didn’t actually). Bear with me, I’ll probably give you multiple chapters the days I post the short ones. Part B is shorter than part A. The next fic will go back to normal chapter lengths (well, relatively). And will be dark.
Disclaimer: I sure as heck don't own Torchwood, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer or ... Hell, I don't own anything except Libby. And I don't own this particular storyline. A lot of the dialog and stuff is stolen snagged from the episodes not because I’m lazy but because I love the episodes so much. But, remember, this is told from a Magic and Mayhem point of view, so a lot of it is different and adjusted and hopefully worth the read. Plus, it’s a fic. I’ll stop rambling on about how this isn’t mine now. Coz it’s not. Obviously. I’m not RTD. I ain’t even a man.
Previous stories and chapters can be found here. Short one, I know. Ask nicely and I may post the final chapter today.
-snuffles- I hate colds. -snuffles more- I'll share my tissues with you for this chapter which made my beta cry.
-snuffles more- I'm a crappy ill girl .. who isn't complaining IRL because she has a dad who will get manflu. I'm also talking in third person. -sob- I want to go back to bed. *end ranting*
Chapter 15
Thursday October 2nd 2008
Five days later.
23:47
It was raining. Large droplets falling down from the sky above and hitting the wet earth, splashing mud onto the shoes of the people stood in the cemetery. Jack had consented to allow Xander to bury Anya rather than her resting forever in the Torchwood morgue and that’s why they found themselves stood in the pouring rain, dressed all in black, watching as Faith and Jack lowered a coffin into the ground.
Buffy and Willow stood either side of Xander, their hair plastered to their faces, holding his hands, Willow on his left, Buffy on his right. It was dark, the moonlight catching the raindrops as they fell and making them sparkle, a magical effect adding beauty to such a sad occasion.
Xander’s hand squeezed Willow’s as she moved closer to his side, resting her head on his shoulder, tears, barely distinguishable from the rain, falling freely down her face as they watched Jack and Faith picking up shovels, loading them with dirt and emptying them into the grave.
Her feet squelching almost disrespectfully in the mud, Tosh stepped up beside Willow, taking her other hand in her own.
Each dull thump of earth hitting the coffin reverberated through Xander’s ears. He wasn’t crying; he’d run out of tears long before. He was just staring, numbly, as Anya left his life forever.
Buffy released his hand, as the last pile off earth was added, and moved away, walking straight into Spike’s arms and letting him hold her as painful sobs wracked her body.
Letting go of Willow’s hand, Xander walked forward towards the grave as Faith and Jack joined the group and they left together, leaving him alone. He stood at the end of it, staring at the brown rectangle of wet, grassless ground and the gravestone before it.
Anya Harris
Devoted Wife and Loyal Friend
He looked down at his left hand, pulling off the ring and looking at the inscription inside.
You Were Worth The Wait
He slipped his ring back on and crouched down in front of the gravestone, touching her name, gently, running his fingers across the engraved letters. “I’ll miss you,” he whispered. “Every day for the rest of my life.” He kissed his fingers, pressing it against the word ‘Wife’.
Then he straightened up and walked away.
