Warnings: Tissues will probably be required. Character Death. I cried writing this =/ as did my beta. Reading it, I mean.

Author’s Note: You know how short some of the chapters were in part A? This is worse. One didn’t even fill a page (well, three didn’t actually). Bear with me, I’ll probably give you multiple chapters the days I post the short ones. Part B is shorter than part A. The next fic will go back to normal chapter lengths (well, relatively). And will be dark.
Disclaimer: I sure as heck don't own Torchwood, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer or ... Hell, I don't own anything except Libby. And I don't own this particular storyline. A lot of the dialog and stuff is stolen snagged from the episodes not because I’m lazy but because I love the episodes so much. But, remember, this is told from a Magic and Mayhem point of view, so a lot of it is different and adjusted and hopefully worth the read. Plus, it’s a fic. I’ll stop rambling on about how this isn’t mine now. Coz it’s not. Obviously. I’m not RTD. I ain’t even a man.

Previous stories and chapters can be found here.

-hands out tissues- I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.

Chapter 5

11:32

“Prisoners on board the crucible. They will be taken for testing.” The Dalek voices terrified her as she walked, hands on her head, beside the other, equally terrified humans. It wasn’t fair. She’d seen so much, not as much as the rest of the Torchwood team, admittedly, but still so, so much.

And now she was going to die at the whisk of an overgrown pepper pot.

In Libby’s eyes ... that was just plain unfair.

All she could think about as she walked (beyond finding a means of escape, of course) was how her brothers would never know how she died. Jay and Seth would just believe she was another casualty of the Daleks. That she hadn’t had a choice when she had and she’d fought and was still fighting, even though it didn’t feel like it anymore.

The guy next to her’s eyes were darting around the area they were in as if looking for an escape, something she had also been doing. He looked annoyed to be there, but not scared. It was strange.

They were herded en-mass into a large room, the Daleks demanding they stand even when they couldn’t. She saw a woman break off from the group and stared in disbelief as she pulled out her lipstick. Of all the times to redo your makeup! But she turned the lipstick on the nearby door and it glowed.

“Mickey!” the woman hissed her way. The man next to her looked across at the woman then across the crowd the other way.

“Jackie!” he called before following the woman through the door. Libby, deciding to take a chance, followed him closely, diving into the door with him as they slammed it behind them.

“Who are you?” he demanded, rounding on her as the woman watched through the door.

She squeaked and started stammering out, “My n-name is Elizabeth Jones. I-I ...” She didn’t know what to say. Whether to mention Torchwood. What would it hurt now? “My brother. He works for Torchwood. I-”

The woman turned around. “Would that be Ianto Jones?”

Libby nodded frantically. “You know him?”

“I saw him on the subwave.” She shot her a smile. “My name’s Sarah-Jane Smith. This is Mickey Smith.” Libby looked between them both. They looked nothing alike.

“No relation,” Mickey said, reading her thoughts, then he ran to look through the porthole back into the room from which they’d come. “We can’t just leave her!” he told Sarah.

He tried to open the door again, but Sarah-Jane stopped him. “No, Mickey! Wait!” she exclaimed.

Libby pushed between them both, staring through the porthole. “What’s going on? What are they testing?”

“I don't know,” Sarah whispered. “But it can’t be good.” She looked round at Libby. “How old are you?”

Libby blinked. “I-I’m twenty-three,” she said.

Sarah turned back to the porthole, muttering something suspiciously like ‘too young, too young’ as they watched light flooding the chamber.

Mickey walked away, pacing behind them, getting more agitated by the moment until a loud beeping filled the area they were in. He pulled something from his pocket, exclaiming, “Thirty minutes! It’s recharged!” He shoved his way between Sarah and Libby, pushing them almost roughly to the side as he hammered on the glass, slamming the button he’d grabbed against it to cause noise. “It’s recharged!” he screamed. “It’s recharged! Use it!”

There was a blast of light outside and less than second later a blast inside as the blonde woman appeared and threw herself at Mickey, hugging him tightly. Sarah and Libby looked back through the window and the two others did the same as everyone outside turned to dust.

Libby gasped, hand over her mouth. “Oh my God,” she half-whimpered.

“Who are you?” the blonde woman asked.

“Elizabeth ... Libby Jones,” she told her. “You?”

“Jackie Tyler, Rose’s mother.”

“Sarah-Jane Smith,” Sarah said to Jackie, with a small smile.

Jackie looked at Libby. “You’re not new to aliens and strange things, are you?” she said, almost sadly. “You’re not even shaking.”

Libby let out a nervous laugh. “Oh, don't worry; I’ll fall to pieces later. I just want to get through today first.”

No one was going to get out of this unscathed. She realised that now.

11:35

“We have Daleks behind us!” Xander yelled as he, Anya and Tosh came running through the cog door, firing useless weapons off behind them. Most of the weevils had been cleared out of the hub now and Ianto suspected he’d locked John the vaults by mistake.

He’d have to check that later.

“So why are you bringing them here?” Spike shouted at him, whipping out his big gun, they’d fetched some more cells for it a few minutes before, and aiming it at the cog door, which was blasted by Daleks as they surged in. Ianto had to bite back a comment about only just getting it closed again.

“Because our guns stopped recharging and we don't want to end up dead!” Anya screamed, she and Tosh diving behind Ianto and Spike for cover as she dumped her gun on the desk by Ianto, saying a quick “Hello” to him as he grabbed his own gun.

Ianto aimed at the Daleks coming through, destroying the first before it even had chance to react. Spike destroyed a second as Ianto’s gun recharged.

Xander dived behind Ianto as well, putting his arm around Anya. As more Daleks forced their way in, he turned to Anya and said, “Go down to the armoury - get the last two power cells.” She nodded and, after a kiss and a whisper of ‘I love you’, headed down to the armoury.

“Where’d Buffy go?” Xander demanded.

“She went with Jack to find the Doctor,” Ianto told him. “Here, take over.” He threw his gun at Xander and headed around to the computers, which he’d only just fixed, tapping his earpiece and checking on each group in turn. “Willow?” he said, finally. Tosh looked round from Spike’s side. “How are you and Libby doing?”

“Ianto ... I’m sorry, the Daleks took Libby,” Willow replied over the comms.

He paled. “What?” he whispered.

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t get a shield up in time.” There was the sound of Willow’s magic crackling. “I only just survived the blast and now she’s gone.”

Ianto swallowed. “You’re okay, though?”

“I’m fine. Is Tosh okay?” Willow asked.

“She’s stood here next to me.” Tosh mouthed something. “She says to tell you she loves you.”

“Tell her I love her too,” Willow said. “But I need to concentrate if I don't want to be exterminated ... again.”

“Understood.” Ianto turned off the earpiece and turned to Tosh. “She says she loves you, too.”

Tosh smiled and put her arms around Ianto, leaning her head against his shoulder, crying with relief. “I thought ...”

“She’s fine.” He wrapped his arms around her and held her close.

None of them noticed the invisible lift coming down, a Dalek on board until it was too late.

“Xander! Here, catch!” Anya called across the hub as she emerged from the armoury, power cells in hand. She tossed one his way.

He turned and caught it. “Thanks Ahn, I ...” His eyes widened as he saw the Dalek turning it’s eyestalk towards Anya.

“Exterminate!” the Dalek said.

“ANYA!” Xander screamed.

Anya stiffened, the shock and pain of extermination going through her as her eyes widened and locked with her husband’s. “Xander ...” she moaned, as she fell forward to the floor, hitting it hard, her chest bouncing off of it before settling, all air gone from her lungs.

It took Xander seconds to aim his gun at the Dalek and destroy it completely and only moments more to run to his wife’s side, dropping to his knees and pulling her onto his lap, cradling her lifeless form. “Anya ... please ... honey ... you have to wake up.”

Ianto moved across, crouching next to him and testing for a pulse; there was nothing. “Xander. I’m sorry ... she’s ...”

“No, she can’t be!” Xander said. “She can’t ... she’s Anya ... she has to be okay. Ianto ... she’ll be fine.” He pulled her body further up, wrapping his arms around her, her head resting against his shoulder. “Anya, please,” he whimpered. “Wake up.”

She didn’t move.

“I need you ... I’m nothing without you.” Ianto stood up and backed away towards Tosh, who was openly crying, taking her into his arms. “Please, God, please, don't take her from me. Please.” He was sobbing now, tears rolling down his cheeks and making her hair damp. “Please ... please, I can’t lose you ... not now ... please ...”

Spike walked across, slowly, lowering himself to his knees and reaching out, touching Anya’s hair gently. Xander looked up, locking their eyes. “She can’t be dead. She can’t ... this isn’t ... this isn’t it ... this isn’t the end ...”

“I’m sorry ...” Spike whispered, remembering how he’d felt when he’d lost Buffy. “I’m so sorry.”

“She can’t be dead!” Xander screamed, rocking himself and Anya as hysterics overtook him. “She can’t be! She can’t ... she can’t!”

“Please ... she can’t ...”

Spike looked up at Ianto, who shook his head slightly. There was nothing anyone could do. She was gone.
