Yesterday I went by the Y after work to find out why my monthly account fee hadn't been charged to my bank account. I spoke to the guy who's usually at the desk, and said I hadn't see the charge and I was wondering what was up. He looked up my account, found my info, and said 'Oh. Well they cancelled your membership.'
WHAT.
I asked him why and he said 'Well, you had 2 NSFs, one in October and one in May of this year.' So I said that I knew about those, and that they were because Visa hadn't sent me my new cards properly either time (long story that involved them mailing a card to an address I hadn't lived at in 2 years, go them, and then a few months later automatically setting me up with a card that had a fee on it and taking forever to send me a new one), and that I'd sorted out November and was pretty sure I'd done the same for May as well. And then I told him that when I'd last been in to the gym about 2 weeks ago, I'd been told that everything was up to date and that December's payment was the one that had the annual building fee on it so it would be bigger.
The guy was like 'Well, I don't know, they don't usually just not renew like that. You could just renew it now, because there'd be the $50 building fee on there anyway.'
I said I'd think about it and I suppose I stalked out. But I was really frustrated - although it would have been far worse to go all ready to do my usual workout only to be told that my membership wasn't active any more.
So as a result I'm looking into a membership at Dalplex, as I'll be working on campus full time in a couple of weeks anyway and it would be more convenient to go there. It's more expensive than the Y, but I think the convenience factor will make up for it. Especially if I'm considered staff (which I don't know yet but I don't think so).
Anyway, off to Dal I go in a few to get some work done, then cookie-baking galore. :D
