Not Caught Up But Working On It!
Estelle came by last weekend. We had lunch and hung out watching a Captain America movie. I gave her their belated chocolate bunnies and a couple of fun kites. No, I didn’t say. “go fly a kite.” The wind has been perfect for kites though and she was excited to get them.
Beyond the Basics. From time to time I schedule classes in my Beyond the Basics section for knitters and crocheters that want to learn a little more than basic how to knit and how to crochet. Are you ready to stretch your knitting wings? For these knitting classes you must know how to knit and purl and be able to do so with ease. For the crochet classes you must know how to crochet into your foundation chain, how to chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet and triple crochet. Watch this space for the next Beyond the Basics class announcement. You can register for all of my classes on my
website. May gives us two Beyond the Basics classes!

Don’t Knit This. These granny pants are definitely “Granny Squares Gone Where No Man Has Gone Before.” Before you cut up your grandmother’s old afghan, ask yourself this question: Do you really want to be caught (dead or alive) wearing these pants? If the answer is no, then put the scissors down and back away. Gently fold up the afghan and put it in a closet for use as an extra blanket during the next ice age, or better yet, donate it to a senior care facility.
Ken dropped off about 15 blankets this morning at Pinole’s Senior Village. As they get older, seniors often have poor circulation and feel cold more acutely. Even when it’s not really cold, they still feel cold. They just want to be warm. An extra blanket on their bed or a smaller wheelchair sized throw would help keep them warm while sitting and watching TV.
In the meantime, I’m going to admonish you not to crochet this.

Granny Pants
2020. A few weeks ago we out at Travis AFB. There was an air show that weekend and the Air Force’s Thunderbirds were going through their routines. Not having lived in a flight path since 1993, I had forgotten how loud the fighter jets are.
Ken explained that the AF flew F-16s and the Navy flew F-18s. He further explained that the F-18s would carry the Navy through the year 2020.
“Through the year 2020?” I asked.
“Yes,” he said then repeated that the F-18s would carry the Navy through the year 2020.
“2020?” I asked.
He was silent for a few moments.
“You just now realized that next year is 2020, didn’t you?” I said.
“Be quiet,” he said.
“Bwahahahaha!” I laughed.
Food and Water Needs: Preparing for a Disaster or Emergency. Preparing Food
Preparing food after a disaster or emergency may be difficult due to damage to your home and loss of electricity, gas, and water. Having the following items available will help you to prepare meals safely:
Cooking utensils
Knives, forks, and spoons
Paper plates, cups, and towels
A manual can- and bottle-opener
Heavy-duty aluminum foil
Propane gas or charcoal grill; camp stove
Fuel for cooking, such as charcoal. (CAUTION: Only use charcoal grills or camp stoves outside of your home to avoid smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning.) Source:
https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/foodwater/prepare.html What’s on My Hooks & Needles? I have finished both sleeves of the child’s sweater and seamed the shoulders together. I’ve attached one of the sleeves and will attach the other one today. What is left is the collar, button bands, side seams and sleeve seams. Then I will be ready for the buttons.
I have finished the leg of the second sock that I’ve been working on. I have begun the heel flap and will work more on that this week.
Currently on my needles are my mitered squares afghan from left over sock yarn and my purple cashmere merino pullover. All of the fancy work has been done. What is left are miles and miles of Stockinette Stitch and I need to reknit one sleeve. But I am actually considering that I might frog it. It is ¾ completed but I may have lost interest in it.
What’s on your hooks and needles?
