The Yarn Sanctuary. I still have not done anything in the Yarn Sanctuary last week except take out yarn that I want to knit with and put a box of new yarn in there to be unpacked. Yes, I should be beaten with a wet strand of acrylic yarn. I will do better this week now that things have settled down. Don’t look at me like that! Really I will!
Jotham & Hannah Photos. As promised last week, here are some snap shots of the Grands. I think Hannah spent about 3 hours snuggled in my arms. Jotham and Grandpa are best buddies as you can see.

Beatriz’s Hat. I’ve been meaning to post this picture but I kept forgetting. This is a picture of Beatriz and one of the hats she made for her new baby. What is remarkable about this is that Beatriz learned to knit in June and mastered the hats by August just in time for her son’s appearance on August 28. I am quite proud of her!

Beyond the Basics. From time to time I schedule classes in my Beyond the Basics section for knitters and crocheters that want to learn a little more than basic how to knit and how to crochet. Are you ready to stretch your knitting wings? For these knitting classes you must know how to knit and purl and be able to do so with ease. For the crochet classes you must know how to crochet into your foundation chain, how to chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet and triple crochet. Watch this space for the next Beyond the Basics class announcement. You can register for all of my classes (except those at Michaels) on my
website. Jokes, Sayings & Cartoons
Yarn is the Answer
Don’t Knit This! I know that when I’m cold, I look for a knitted, cabled tube mini-dress resembling a fancy toilet paper roll. Then for added warmth, I get a giant spider to wrap my head in yarn thick spider web before my head is eaten. Unless you are planning to be supper for a giant spider, don’t knit this. I can’t even think of a name for this!
Can’t Think of a Name for This!
Marie, the Bad Girl Name. I didn’t know this until I was a teenager but Marie is a bad girl name. My best friend in high school was Beth. Beth’s mom usually called me Denise Lynelle (my true middle name.) But when Beth, I or her sister Linda were bad we became Elizabeth Marie, Denise Marie and Linda Marie.
“But my middle name is not Marie,” I told Beth the first time she called me Denise Marie.
“Neither is mine,” Beth said. “It’s the bad girl name.
When Estelle was growing up, her middle name was sometimes changed from May to Marie as needed. Her friends also shared that middle name occasionally when warranted.
“But my middle name is not Marie,” they would tell Estelle.
“Neither is mind,” Estelle would say. “It’s the bad girl name.”
I apologize to all my friends named Marie or whose middle name really is Marie.

http://www.lionbrand.com/blog/10-most-important-health-benefits-of-yarncrafting/ What’s on My Hooks & Needles? I found a lovely little lace pattern for a head scarf. I knit one in garter stitch and the other in stockinette in fingering weight as the pattern stated. I do like the stockinette lace better, which is unusual because they usually curl too much. Not this one though. I ordered cotton in fingering weight which arrived Friday. Sunday I opened the box and removed one skein of cotton for the head scarf, one skein to swatch for a Christmas gift, a rosewood yarn bowl and book of Japanese stitch patterns.
I have my purple cashmere merino sweater on the needles. I am almost finished reknitting the sleeve. I then need to take a look at the hem. I may continue knitting to make this a dress.
