Pussy Riot Player Arrives In Siberia
Jailed Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has arrived at a penal colony in Siberia to serve the rest of her two-year term.
Russian Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin, quoting Justice Ministry officials, told Interfax news agency on November 12 that Tolokonnikova is currently in a prison in Krasnoyarsk Krai. The ombudsman's website said earlier that Russian authorities decided to transfer Tolokonnikova to Siberia because she was born in Krasnoyarsk Krai and has been registered as a permanent resident in the city of Norilsk there.
Tolokonnikova was jailed for hooliganism for a 2012 performance in a Moscow cathedral that criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin. She is due to be released in March.
She was transferred to Siberia after going on a hunger strike to protest conditions and alleged death threats by officials at a penal colony in Russia's eastern Mordovia Republic.
