I received an interesting e-mail from someone who read my gastric bypass surgery diary:

After twelve years I imagine you still get a ton of emails about this. I hope that they haven’t worn you out, and I’ll try and keep this short. I read the entire diary, which is quite a feat as most things I read on the internet don’t hold my interest for more

I've read your gastric bypass diary several times. It's really helpful. I've been considering surgery (best shot of getting diabetes under control/gone) at Fair Oaks. I've been asking folks who've had bariatric surgery if they mind telling me if, years down the road, they are glad they had the surgery. If you feel like sharing, I'd love to know your answer, but I respect if you'd prefer not to answer.

I'd have it 10 times over, but you should go to the INOVA Fair Oaks Staple Club meetings and talk to people who have had difficulties with the surgery and how they overcame them. I'll go with you if you like.

That's really helpful to hear. Thanks for your offer to attend with me. I might really like that. I looked at their website, and see they have the Journey Together support group on the third Monday night. Is that the Staple Club? If it's all right, I'll stay in touch here on LJ, and let you know if I want to go.

Ah, that clears things up. I had only looked at the Fair Oaks site, not the surgery center site. I'm not sure if I am going to be able to attend. I may have to be out of town for work that night. If not, I plan to go. I'll let you know if I'm going to be there.

I hope I'm not intruding but you may aso want to check out http://www.dsfacts.com/ if diabetes is a concern. The DS has a better rate of success in dealing with it. If GERD is a concern, as it is with many, the DS may make it worse.

GERD is a factor, but there are other factors that also preclude a DS. I'm looking at a vertical sleeve.
