Yes. But do not let that deter you from the many other utilities of this class of knot.

It can be used to catch things, or pull up something dropped a distance below. Knowledge is critical even without application.

Without any other way to defend yourself, faced with a Minotaur with any length of rope I believe you will find yourself stomped into the ground regardless.
