last night i went to the troubadour with nadia.

the first band was oxbow. a massive blackman singer was violently undressing. he had white underwear on, the tight kind. and he kept jamming his unprotected package against the microphone stand. meanwhile, his facial expression gave away his state of insanity.. as if this stripping and pressing didn't reveal that. i believe it was all good fun since nobody got hurt. his bandmembers- the guitarist, the bassist, and the drummer- did a good job at providing pleasant sound. everyone was into it.

that's why i liked this show so much- every band as a whole, and every person, alone, could not avoid getting lost in this progressive musical emotion.

we went to see isis, but the second band impressed me most of all. they are called these arms are snakes. i'd seen the name here and there, but i never gave it much thought.
the set was intoxicating. yes, comrades, what a set! i felt MORE intoxicated as it went on, losing sense of time. the singer swerved and he swayed as he threw his slim body all around the stage. his microphone was at hand, and he screamed. and his accommodating musicians played magical music of excellency. i couldn't blink!( and no exaggeration!) the singer was mesmerizing. watching him hypnotized. everyone was hypnotized i think. TAAS is what i have been missing. i rejoice because last night i found them. i knew them there and then.

a night of hypnosis indeed! isis was next, no coincidence. they did not disappoint. i'd seen them at the k/f with mogwai several months ago. this time, the microphone was off. no matter how loud he was yelling on cue, the amp did not pick up. but this did not stop the man. a muscular man with might of voice and musical ability- he played guitar nicely.
i myself found it intriguing to watch the guitarist in front of me. he would get into a melody, and infinitely played. the set of isis was the most intense loss of the sense of time yet(not as intense as mushrooms. yet it came so close!)i thought it was hours, when it has barely been one. oh, wizardry!
this brilliant music. perhaps as i try to explain the sort, i will me less than more understood. but it really is a matter of desire that will intrigue you to experience this.

the guitar usually started a song. he'd play a short, jolie melody continuously, and others started to join him. the sound went on, it was a steady balance of trance-inducing instrumental harmony/ said at the very least! but heard- an opiate for the ears. it build up as the drums began to beat faster. a progress of ingenious heavy ballad. and faster! the sound converged and collapsed between each other, while the melody remained. it became distorted, but was comprehendible still. they turned up the amps. they continued to stomp on various sound switch buttons in front of their feet. and each song lasted a century, it seemed. they played each one in every possible setting of sound. the handling of technology was unbeatable. the crafters!
as a song came to an end, some slowed, and returned to the original guitar licks. but mostly, it was such an overabundance of sound, noise was formed! ear piercing, ringing noise! and what a glorious sound it was! distorted and intense, it filled the room with emotion. bodies oscillated without concious effort, as noise ascended into an indescriptive prolonged sound, so beautiful and disorderly! no encore was played, and for what? it's a band to play a single set and deafen the listeners with dramatic cacophony. one cannot pick apart the songs at this show, for it was all part of a single amazing process. Isis is the band to see, man.

aside from that, i'm probably not going to british invasion, as much as i'd like to, i already have a ticket to see blonde redhead that night. and it's really far, too.
