Did Not Know This Until Today!
Hee Hee. So today I didn't go to Methods out at MM instead as a class for social studies methods, we took a field trip to the historical museum on campus. Really good time. I learned a couple new things, but the funniest and thing i really learned about was "Spoiled Doves." When i saw this sign it also had something about women in business blah blah blah... so what i was thinking is that these women or doves in this case were spoiled because they were in business which was "a man's world".. i go in and see pictures and go around a divider thing and see a bed... didn't really connect this. then we are leaving and i go over by where my professor is standing and i catch the word "whore" in the big jumble of words. so i start reading... we had a street named Gay Alley..named for a man who's last name is "gay" so i start reading...Turns out Tucson used to have a legal red light district...mean prostitution was legal in an area now that is the Convention Center. I laughed. i think it'd be fun to go (if there were still a street/street sign that said gay alley so that i could do a goofy photoshoot and pretend i was a hooker in the day. or now. haha.
so i also learned that the whores used to get checked out by doctors. i forget how often, and if they had diseases then they were kicked out/off of gay alley. in this exhibit there were examples of the doctor's bill of health note. it said something like. i so and so check out this whore (they used her name haha) and she is free from diseases. lol.. so at least they were safe.
i found this whole exhibit amusing and interesting. i NEVER knew we had legal prostitution and the words... so they were spoiled doves.... haha. basically they were just WHORES. anyway... so of course i get home and have to google it. I'll probably google more in a little bit, but if you want to read up on it at all here's one website i was looking at....
all about the whores. photoshoot to follow... i will somehow recreate gay alley... lol... but seriously. lol maybe a modern day version..
