the stewardess

I got a library card today.

It's pleasant how these places look so institutional...all the greys and maroons, lemon scented commercial cleaners and body odor...thermostat set 2 degrees below comfortable. Not the atmosphere that inspires dreams when insomnia hits. I don't remember what did it for me last night. When I woke up all my dreams had run away. I called.
The automated system chimed: all dreams unavailable for consultation.

I left a message.

I had a friend once who could remember all of his dreams vividly until the moment he got out of bed in the morning and peed. I remember imagining a dream junkie standing in a sewage drain covered in excrement holding a baggie hoping to catch the dreams as they came down the pipe. Gotta get 'em while they' re fresh before they loose that transient quality that separates dreams from the inspired imaginations of twilight.

I've heard it's the difference between the teasers and the feature presentation of the in-flight movie as the plane goes down...cabin lights flickering...engines failing...the fasten seat belt sign on...oxygen masks deployed.
The stewardess strolling down the center isle with her push cart passing out head phones...$5.

after thoughts: "Have you ever seen the movie 'Jaws'? If you watch it backwards it's a movie about a shark who vomits up so many people they eventually have to open a beach. It's all a matter of perspective."
