I have been going to school in Lakeland for 4 years. I consider myself pretty fluent in music and what is good and what is not. I haven't really listened to the local scene until this year actually. The reason I got started because one of my best friends at school happens to be the Drummer of the Crayons. I haven't listened to a lot of bands, I have only heard a few. I think the biggest thing that we have to remember is, its not how bad you suck or how good you are, its how much you try to care. Some of the bands I have heard honestly sound like crap. There is one band that I know of (that shall remain nameless) where, the lead singer is such an egocentric bastard, he thinks his band is awesome....and he likes to rag on other things that he "thinks" sucks. But his band is absolutley fucking horrible. HORRIBLE I tell you. Basically the point I am getting at, is before you complain about how dirty someone elses house is, you better make sure your house is spotless. For the town we live in and the lack of anything to do here, to see kids going out of their way to make music,is awesome.just keep in mind, that every show is not Warped tour, and every venue is not a house of Blues or something like that. Keep yourself centered. Oh and for the record, Bjork rules.
i think im getting a late start here but im gonna say it anyway. i am brantley from death after texas. honestly i dont like most of the stuff my band puts out. and i have to say, its because it sounds like the whole holler/emo/whatever thing. there is much more timeless music to be made. i've come to realize that no matter how many different kinds of music there are in the world everyone will have there favorites and if this kind of music is someone's favorite then it doesnt bother me as long as they dont forget that there is more to life than what they are listening to. i dont make a habit of listening to thrusday or music like that so much as i do other kinds. but the music i ended up playing just happen to be what it is. i do give props to the crayons for sounding the way they do but only because we need different types of music. but then again just because they are different than what's in lakeland doesnt make them good. and that goes for every band everywhere of all talent levels. overall id have to classify the crayons as more of a novelty band than anything and i dont really know if that's a bad thing or a good thing. but either way i respect them..although i did hear they thought the fellows in d.a.t. were a-holes...i don't think i've ever met a single member from the crayons, played with them sure..but never met any of them. someone just spreading rumors and lies im sure, which is typical of people everywhere. so i hope my post isnt too long or too late or or to confusing (now that i've read over it, it does seem rather hard to follow...) or taken out of context in a bad way..so crayons, keep making music.
