Look. It's not really some deep dark secret. I mean, people know. So here's the gist. I got a little careless and a little reckless. Joker got lucky and shot me in the shoulder. It wasn't a critical injury, but it wasn't a flesh wound either. Oh, and when he shot me? I was swinging

Yeah, okay. I guess if my Bruce and I had had a problem, I wouldn't want to do that to him either.

Like I said--things were different in my world. I got it secondhand from my you, because Bruce didn't want to talk about it. They had a fight--something about Barbara, and Bruce being too controlling or something, and then my you punched him, threw the cape in his face and walked out. And he was gone more than a year... I don't know anything about any Teen Titans, but he did a lot of traveling and picked up a lot of neat tricks from people around the world. He's teaching me some.

I don't know if Bruce does that kind of stuff in my world. He's never really tried, you know? It sounds like things went down pretty differently between you two. But I guess I can see what you mean. It's got to be hard to watch someone beat on or shoot your kid. I'll try to keep that in mind if my Bruce goes all weird on us.

...I must have been in a seriously bad place to punch him. And he must have been in a seriously guilty place to let me. That, or one of us was being mind-controlled.

The TT were four of us kid partners hanging out together and teaming up to fight crime. Me (Robin), Aqualad, Wonder Girl and Kid Flash. And then Speedy joined us pretty soon after. Or... me (Nightwing), Tempest, Troia, and Red Arrow, as we go today. Later on, the team expanded a bit. I don't know if you've met Mar'i, yet but she's from a future where I married one of the team. Starfire. In this world we were an item. We almost got married but stuff happened. We broke up about as amicably as people do break up, and we're still friends.

Anyway, I see Bruce just replied in the other thread. I'm dropping the subject if he is. It was years ago, and I'd like to think we've both gotten smarter in the interim. In other words, don't bug him about it. It's not going to do any of us any favors.

My you said it had been building up for a while, so I guess you were both in pretty bad places by the time it happened. No mind control that he mentioned.

...Oh. I don't think... I've never heard of any of those people--except Speedy. He works with Green Arrow a lot, right? And yeah, I met Mar'i, but I didn't know where she came from at all. I didn't even know it was an alternate universe until something Bruce said in my post.

Okay. I won't bug him... not like it would do much good if I did. I bet he's about as close-mouthed about that kind of stuff as he is back home.

Yeah, Speedy and Green Arrow go together like Batman and Robin. Current Speedy is a girl, by the way. Nice kid.

Listen, if there's anything about me and Bruce that you want to compare/contrast or confuses you because it happened different on your Earth, bug me. If it's something I don't want to talk about, I'll tell you, but I'm not going to lie to you.

It's just, Bruce has been through a lot lately. It's one thing if he decides to open up--and he does every so often. Usually when you least expect it. (Unpredictability is a 'bat' thing, in case you hadn't noticed.)

And--okay. I can do that. What about other stuff, though? There's a lot that's different around here. Like--I don't know anything about this Jason guy. Is that a sore subject that I shouldn't ask a lot about? Bruce seemed... I don't know. Something when I asked about him.

It takes a certain... something to wear a cape. Smarts, sure. Guts. Determination. Skill. Jason had all that. Still does. The thing is... I guess... look, the reasons aren't important. Nature? Nurture? That's not what you're asking about anyway.

You know that one of the things that separates us from the creeps we fight, the main thing that stops the cops from hunting us down (most of the time), is that we don't kill. Jason didn't feel the same way. He took to Bruce's training. When I met him, he was an angry confused kid, but then a lot of kids who get raw deals in life are angry and confused. I know I was. One of the reasons Bruce took me on as a partner was because he felt I needed to take that anger and focus it, channel it, use it for a good purpose. It's what he did too

...Wow. There's my answer, and then some. Thanks. I... would have felt pretty bad if I'd accidentally stepped in this. I mean--I guess I kind of did, with my question about him, but I didn't know. I think... there's probably a lot I'm going to mess up while I get used to things around here. I feel like I should issue a blanket apology in advnce, you know?

Don't worry about it. Bruce usually finds it hard to talk about stuff like this. It's not that he doesn't want you to know, it's that he doesn't want to discuss it. Best advice I can give you is, if you ask him something and he changes the subject or ignores you... drop it. Ask me later if you really want to know. But don't push him.

So... you said he's been through a lot lately? What happened?

Short version? Coma for 3 months. Then amnesia. He's pretty close to back now, but I'm sort of watching out in case he blanks on something basic. That's been happening less and less lately.

...Woah. That sounds pretty serious. But he's okay now?

I hope so... he acts like he is. He sounds like he is. It's just that sometimes, you'll be talking to him about an old case and he'll act like he knows what you're talking about. Then I'll catch him in the cave pulling up the case files. He'll say he's reviewing in case there's something he's forgotten... and he won't tell you the 'something' is the name and MO of the hostile.

At this point, I think he's got the basics on everyone who's been a problem in the last few years. If it's someone we haven't tangled with since I was a kid, hell, I probably need a refresher at this point.

If you catch him at it, don't panic. If he asks you to elaborate, do it. If he bluffs, just move on. But if it's something you think he should know--like if the Mad Hatter would rob a tart shop on Queen Street, and the Wonderland pub on Looking Glass Lane, then kidnaps a shop attendant named Alice from an exotic tea store... and he asks you what the possible connection is--and it doesn't sound like he's testing you... contact me. Or Alfred. Or 'Big' you.

Well, I don't think I'll have much to worry about as far as old cases go. I mean--I wouldn't know any of them anyway. But I know the basic MOs of a lot of the players from home, and I bet they're pretty similar here, too--if what you said about Hatter's true.

But I'll keep that in mind, and I'll definitely let one of you know if I notice anything weird.
