My update of todays events:
1. My Anthropology professor showed us a quote by Ann Coulter where she said "The ethic of conservation is the explicit abnegation of man's dominion over the Earth. The lower species are here for our use. God said so: Go forth, be fruitful, multiply, and rape the planet -- it's yours. That's our job: drilling, mining and stripping. Sweaters are the anti-Biblical view. Big gas-guzzling cars with phones and CD players and wet bars -- that's the Biblical view." Right? So we were all laughing at her and my professor was all like "Clearly this isn't based on any hard evidence" To which this chick raises her hand and argues, "Yes it is. There's all kinds of evidence in there." (Evidence which she never shares with the rest of the class, oddly enough.) This other chick is all like "She's quoting the Old Testament as her 'evidence'". I thought it was an interesting topic for us to discuss, and I thought the one chick that argued with my professor blew. That one was long. Next one not so much.
2. Jane Goodall will be at the Lincoln Park Zoo where she is giving a speech on... I don't know what exactly, but tickets are 20 bucks and I really wanted to go, but alas! Tickets are sold out.
3. (Possibly the most exciting) I held an Oscar today. A real life Academy Award. Technically, I'm not supposed to tell anyone but this is too good to keep to myself. It was Mercedes McCambridges... she went to Mundelien College which was the Catholic school that Loyola came from (ie, half of our buildings were theirs). Anyway, long story short with no professors names so I don't get them in trouble, I got to hold it. Its rather large and in charge, and heavy. Crazy. Well now I know what to expect when I get mine handed to me.
