NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Dodgers landed the bat they've been seeking, reaching agreement on Wednesday night with free-agent outfielder Andruw Jones on a two-year, $36 million contract, according to a baseball official. The deal is contingent on Jones passing a physical exam.
Jones, a 10-time Gold Glove winner and five-time All Star, will take over

The only con is that it's $18 mil a year. BUT the pros outweigh it:
- 2-year deal
- Power hitter
- Gold Glover with a cannon in CF now
- >>>> Did not have to give up 6 people for him
- Reunited with Furcal
- The Braves no longer have him in their lineup and F the Braves
Oh, another con is that Andruw Jones was a Brave his whole life, even though I hate them. I respect that the Braves at least kept players forever, and the Astros, I kinda wish I knew what that kind of baseball was like, where players played for one team and that was it. But, such is life. I'M EXCITED. We can afford $18 mil a year and our biggest problem was having another power hitter in the lineup. The Dodgers still have Nomar and can still start him at 3B to kick off the season. All this talk about "we need a 3B, we need a 3B" and then all these suggestions of having a kid there. Why not start Nomar off there? See how it works. Look up Nomar's splits and his numbers with runners on, in scoring position, or on 3rd, 2nd and 3rd, etc, are amazing. I say we try him, or seriously try someone else there instead of platooning every freaking game.
This should be interesting though. We'd have to use Pierre in front of Andruw, I think, so move him to LF, and there's only one position for everyone else to share. Do you keep Kemp and Ethier? Out of Kemp, Ethier, and Pierre, what's going to happen? Will Pierre sit out more? Who of the 3 would you rather see traded now that we've acquired Andruw?
Why am I asking so many questions? Haha.
I think our priorities now are:
1) #4 & 5 starting pitchers, you can try out a kid in the #5 slot, but you can't do that with 2 slots.
2) Find out where the F Liberthal went because, honestly, he was just the Phillies #1 catcher, and some teams don't even have that for their starter. We're lucky to have Martin, and we need to give him some more breaks, especially on day games, because even as a fan those games just drain the shit out of me. I greatly prefer Martin back there, and can notice the difference, but seriously though, we need a decent backup catcher.
3) Better relief pitching, mostly mid-relief/long relief. We're obviously good with a closer, and good with setup guys, but could use more guys that are going to come in during the 5th-7th innings if necessary.
4) Stick with our options for 3B now because there isn't much else we can do.
5) Maintain Hu because, c'mon, Hu's your daddy.
Honestly, besides #1, none of these things are really "major". I think we're in good shape right now. Could be better, but also could be a lot worse (lol Giants), and I don't think Ned Colletti is stupid enough to make things worse. I think this was a way better move than trading 4 starters or whatever for Miguel Cabera. That's just nuts.

None of them were starters. Simply prospects. 6 in total.
The Dodgers just gambled $36 million on an outfielder who may have begun a huge downturn in his career, or merely had one bad year. It makes me wonder what kind of money Jones would've commanded had his 2007 numbers not been so off.
The Tigers moved 6 unproven prospects to Florida to gain two perennial all-star franchise players (assuming one of them doesn't eat himself into oblivion), who are both under 26, and made themselves the team to beat in the AL Central.

Andruw Jones might very well rebound, but considering the precipitous dive his BA took in 2007, it makes one wonder.

I think the thing that's huge is that Jones was an FA, and that the Dodgers get to keep all their players they've been growing in their farm system. $36 mil is a lot, yes, but fuck it, we've been #1 in the NL in attendance, and pay a bazillion dollars to go to games, with the new cost of parking and hot dogs, at least the money's going back to attempt to improve our team rather than all to our owner or whathaveyou.

Somebody elsewhere said Jones now owns the fifth-highest annual salary in baseball (!). For a guy who hit .222 last year and has a horrific OBP, even lower than Juan Pierre.
And, does this mean the Dodgers will trade Matt Kemp? I thought he was the future of the team but now it seems like they've got too many outfielders and they sure as hell won't be able to unload Pierre...
