Seeing the College World Series reminded me

While in a cranky mood today (a drunk driver hit my brand new car earlier--luckily there was no damage!), I decided to look up how some of the old Rice pitchers have been doing since they graduated. Remember Jeff Niemann, Wade Townsend, and Phillip Humber? I do ( Read more... )

During that game vs. Georgia, don't you think he had to leave Degerman in?

I agree he left Degerman in too long.

However, he apparently was planning on starting Cole St. Clair, so obviously he didn't want to use him too much. Cole isn't a starter, so he'd need some other arms in the bullpen to come in for relief.

He had other options, but it was a situation where I could see why he wouldn't want to go to the 'pen until he absoltuely had to, but I don't necessarily agree with that. It's not like we don't have other pitchers that could have started in Cole's place, even if they have been shaky as of late.

Well, I mean, I think he wanted him to get out of the inning so he could have a solid 7 innings, maybe he had thrown around 120 pitches, but it was the bottom of the order and he only needed 2 more outs and I think he was just overly confident in Degerman. He pulled him when he failed to get his two outs.

I also think starting St. Clair was actually a good idea because St. Clair had proven to be one of the better pitchers on the team and he needed to rest his starters. St. Clair ended up doing very well and his makeshift bullpen also got the job done.
