Movie: Saw
Everything is Illuminated at the Colony last night with
badger. A decent film but not in the same caliber as either
Good Night, and Good Luck or
Capote. See
badger's write-up
for a bit more.
Camera: The missing parts for my D70 are either on back-order or were mistakenly shipped to Virginia. Really, I'd like to put an eye cup and LCD screen cover back on the camera.
More annoyingly, Nikon is recalling
some batteries for the D70. Mine is covered. However, unlike what Palm used to do back in the day, I have to send my battery back to Nikon before they will send me a replacement. I don't want to be without the battery for 7-10 days from the time the battery is received. I presume that means n days in transit, get catalogued as "arrived", seven to 10 days before shipment then n days in transit back.
The way this ought to work is this: I call their 800 number or go online, verify that my EN-EL3 is under recall, give them my warranty information and get a new battery then ship the old one back. Now, the counter-argument is that the return rate wouldn't be that fantastic if they did that. Perhaps, in which case, I'm willing to have a hold put on a credit card until the battery arrives, at which point, the hold is released. I can think of other arguments. Still, my point, I shouldn't be without use of the product while the company fixes a defect [1].
Other photo: I feel it's a quieter
month so far, but given how
October went, I'm not surprised [2]. It's been good doing other things for a bit. The month will pick up. To get it started,
ambermae has started the Raleigh Flickr group
photo scavenger hunt.
Other art:
Paul Friedrich's new show opens at
Bickett. Bickett called me to see if I wanted to come, seeing that I bought an Onion Head Monster piece last time around.
Exercise/cycling: Holy crap, a bit less than seven months to go and I've not really started ramping up my distance yet. Unfortunately, last month's trip, blood donation and the end of daylight savings are allowing me some leeway in eluding personal responsibility. Except no. So, this week, it's back into the regular gym routine. Not quite sure what to do about weekday rides just yet. If I do something else, like run, I need new shoes [3].
From the AIDS/Lifecycle side of things, I'm still waiting to hear from my assigned cycle buddy from the SF AIDS Foundation. Of course, seeing that I'll be on the West Coast in just over two weeks, I figure I can just make an appointment and drop in.
Work:
The News and Observer launched on the latest version of our publishing system software yesterday. That felt good around the office. Celebratory hot donuts were had this morning. It was a long time in development and someone's finally using it.
- I should call and ask if I can do what I want here, anyway. I can only get better that what they're offering.
- I would here like to express my appreciation for Flickr's developers. They format URLs well. They're human readable, they invite address bar editing and the edits, I've found, do what I want them to do. In the case above, I went from a single day's photographic output, took the date off and spiffy, I have a month's work at a glance.
- Street running shoes, trail running shoes or cross-trainers? Hmm...
