Personality:
Some people come through abuse as beaten-down and uncommunicative. Bastian, however, took the opposite route on his personality. He's a very friendly and outgoing guy, feeling that people should feel comfortable around him. He loves to smile and hates any kind of drama or angst. In fact, he tends to try and shirk away from drama and general seriousness whenever he can.
He loves to please people, sometimes to his own expense. He hates confrontations that will get him in trouble and prefers to attempt other ways of getting through issues rather than fighting.
He's a hopeless romantic, and would be much more likely to plan out an elaborate dinner/dance in the confines of his own quarters than to take someone out somewhere. He doesn't feel like he's got much charm, in terms of women, but that's because he hasn't actually ever had experience with them when it comes to relationships. The majority of his friends are female, because he tends to be able to hang out with them and have fun with them. He doesn't feel like he has something to prove.
Strengths:
1. Natural flair for Transfiguration - Bas has always been very talented with Transfiguration. He was planning on attempting to become an Animagus at some point, but decided to put that off for his dreams of becoming an Auror.
2. Musical - Bas plays the piano and sings, though... he's not the best singer in the world. He should probably stick with just piano-playing, but he enjoys singing along to his music.
3. Flying - He's always had an interest in flying and Quidditch, though the reason that he likes to play Quidditch is because it's a sport that involves flying.
Weaknesses:
1. Potions - In order to get the passing grades that he needs for becoming an Auror, Bas has to work triple-y hard in Potions. He is horrible at them, and if he hadn't gotten extra help over his school years, he wouldn't have gotten into the NEWT level classes.
2. Stubborn - That Gryffindor streak; if Bas thinks that he's right, he will argue the point to the ground. If he thinks something needs to be broken down, he will continue on that track of thought until the horse is dead and beaten to a pulp.
3. People-pleaser - Bastian doesn't like people to be unhappy, so he always goes out of his way to cheer people up.
4. Light-hearted - He doesn't like serious situations. He doesn't like to have to handle them, he doesn't like the things that come with it, so he shys away from them as best he can.
5. Rash - Bas doesn't always think through his decisions before he acts on them.
6. Emotional Detachment - While Bas is a friendly and outgoing guy, when it comes to actual emotional attachment, he has issues. For that reason, he's never had a romantic relationship; he hasn't felt that he has anything of worth to bring women in that department. Fears/Motivations:
Bas' biggest fear is probably of being forgotten. He wants to do big things with his life, and he wants to be remembered for them. The worst thing, in his mind, is to have a meaningless existence.
History:
Bastian had a hard childhood. His father would leave him, his mother, and his brother for months at a time. When he would come back home, he would be drunk on Firewhiskey, and very violent. Many times, his father beat his mother, then went looking for Bastian's younger brother Matthew. In an effort to protect his brother, Bastian would offer himself as compensation to his father, doing his father's will. Often, this was quite unpleasant.
His mother was a loving and doting mother to he and his brother. When his father wasn't around, they were the picture of a perfect family. His mother was not a typical Pureblood elitist, so he grew up feeling that blood didn't matter as much as character.
Despite the fact that his father was a horrible father, Bastian got out of the rut that he was probably expected to be put into. He never told anyone about his childhood -- as far as all his friends and everyone besides Matthew and his brother know, his father was a decent man who was just missing quite a bit. When he got to Hogwarts, he was almost instantly put into Gryffindor.
His years at Hogwarts have been relatively normal. He stays out of trouble for the most part, though he gets into a couple scrapes and detentions with his plans that he makes. Hey, a guy's got to have a little bit of fun in the castle, right?
He was on the Quidditch team his 3rd, 4th, and 5th years at the castle, but forced himself to quit the team when he realized that he would have to focus a lot more attention on his classes, specifically Potions. He wants to be an Auror more than anything, and in order to do that, he had to stop worrying about the sport. Now he simply plays for fun in his spare time.
