All The Vicious Dogs

I mean, so much of the evil that men do to one another has at its core the inability of people to empathize with another person's position.
--Christopher Durang, Laughing Wild

Or: I've been reminded why I keep remembering to remind myself why not to write on here...
There is no way to measure a person's sadness, or loss. You cannot possibly appreciate their context. Additionally, you cannot understand another person's life or mental state. We do not operate on a level emotional playing field--our circumstances are infinitely more unique in life than they are in death. As such, I cannot seem to wrap my head around the apparent callousness I have witnessed on here in the past 24 hours.

How can the same people who day after day treat this forum as an online log of their daily activities can turn around and snipe at another person's expressed sadness, no matter how unoriginal this sadness may appear to said vulture? I don't get it.

Furthermore, "I told you so"s without the initial telling prove nothing. Prediction after the fact explains nothing, helps nothing, and at best is an annoyance to those who agree but resent you for bringing it up in the first place.

Elliott Smith was not Ian Curtis and twenty-odd years have not passed, so until you have your own preciously postmodern filmic autobiography/vessel (yes, I'm alluding to you Tony Wilson), let's try to keep both the irony and humor out of his death.

All those whose mind entitle themselves,
and whose main entitle is themselves,
shall feel the wrath of my bombast
--Mark E. Smith
