Friday the 11th the clutch went out on my car after lunch as I headed back to work. I had to have it towed to my mechanic who said he could fix it Monday. Fine, I would only have to take the bus once from work to home and then once more from home to work on Monday. I could get by without a car for one weekend.
Monday comes and my mechanic calls and says it is fixed. So I drive it a short distance away and the clutch goes out again. The car is in first gear, so I am able to drive it slowly back to my mechanic. He notices all the fluid for the clutch is gone. So he puts more fluid in, has me pump the clutch several times, and looks for any leaks. He spots a few, tightens a few things.
So I leave again and the clutch goes out again. Now it is around 5:30 when my mechanic closes. I managed to get back, driving in first gear all the way just before he closes the shop doors. Again, all the clutch fluid is gone. He looks again for any sign of leaks and finds another, but this leak means I need another part so my car won't be fixed until Tuesday. Another trip on the bus home, and then one more back to work, great...
So Tuesday I get a call from my mechanic saying he cannot get the part until Wednesday, meaning yet another bus ride home and then one more to work. These bus rides are grueling. They take between 1 hour 20 minutes to 2 hours each way, when it normally takes only 20 minutes by car.
Finally Wednesday, I get my car back. At least my mechanic gave me a discount on the labor. The clutch has been working fine ever since then, so I think it is fixed this time...
In other news, I was drinking some horchata the other day and Shadow begged for some. I poured a little bit into my cupped hand and offered it to her, expecting her to take one whiff and walk away once she discovered it wasn't milk. To my surprise, she quickly lapped it all up
