Luserina meets with Colton for her 'date'. Somehow...he's weirder when he's nice?
Colton sauntered towards the cafe, a bouquet of flowers in his hand, hoping that his "date" would not stand him up. He'd had that misfortune numerous times and did not wish to repeat it. Upon catching a glimpse of the young lady seated at a table, he approached and offered the flowers. "Good day, milady."
Luserina glanced up at the sudden scent of flowers, catching Coltons eye. She smiled, just a bit uncomfortably. "Sir Colton. I'm glad you could make it.
The old man sighed and took a seat, still holding the gift out to her. "How are you, Miss Luserina?"
She took the offered flowers at last, smiling her thanks. Whatever her misgivings, she couldn't deny the fact that the man was, at least, trying, and she had to give him credit for that. "I'm doing quite well, Sir Colton, and yourself? I was--am--surprised you joined the contest, I admit."
"Well, I have a confession. I didn't join for me," he said, leaning back in his chair. "I am competiting on behalf of my son."
"Your...what?" Now that was surprising. "I wasn't aware you had a son."
"I do," Colton nodded. "Back in my time, at least. He's a little older than you--26--and a good soldier."
"That does explain a lot, I suppose," Luserina mused. Competing on behalf of his son was...sweet. A little strange, but sweet. "Then...were you in the army, too? In your time, I mean."
"Yes, well, the navy, actually. We called it the army, but we conducted our warfare on the sea."
"I see!" Now here was something she could relate to. "You'd do well in Falena, then, since the country is interwoven with rivers."
"So I've been told," he replied. "But yes, I won't waste your time, but I was wondering if you would consider returning with me to at least meet my son."
"Returning...to your time, you mean?" She blinked, puzzled.
The old man nodded. "Yes. We could come back here afterwards."
"I didn't realise...is that really possible?"
"The teleportress is here. I'm certain she can do it."
"Teleportress? Ah, you mean Viki, I'm sure." she said. "But I thought she had difficulty controlling that. After all, I ended up here quite by accident."
Colton shrugged. "Maybe she can get lucky if I pay her enough."
"I'm not entirely sure that's how it works," Luserina murmured. "Still, if there is a way to return to your time, I'm not adverse to meeting your son. Or if he arrives here." Though neither possibility was likely....
"Yes...I understand. I don't know that I would want you to take the risk of not returning to your family. Still, I appreciate your time, Miss Luserina."
"Perhaps...if for some reason your son were to show up, unlikely as it is, he could compete for himself." Strange, strange man to do this for his son, but it seemed worth rewarding.
"Perhaps," Colton said, getting to his feet. "It was a pleasure meeting you, though, Miss Luserina."
Luserina rose automatically, stretching out her hand for a handshake. "And you as well, Sir Colton. --And thank you. For the flowers."
He took her hand and shook it, giving a slight bow of his head. "You are quite welcome. Good day."
