Stallion: I'm skipping if it involves stripping.
Aila: I don't blame you. Especially considering the luck I had. >.>
Stallion: *snorts*
Aila: Oh...in all honesty, it wasn't that bad.
Stallion: I shall keep my clothes on. No one needs to look at my skinny elven rear. Anyway, so you said you are of Hugo's tribe. You must have grown up with him.
Aila: *nods* I remember Hugo from when I was...wow, as long as I can remember.
Stallion: So you knew him as a little firebrand? *he laughs*
Aila: Oh, he was always getting into things! He's always been like that, though.
Stallion: I figured as much. Know anything embarrassing about him that I can tease him about?
Aila: Um...about the only thing I could tell you is that he's wasn't anywhere near as good with knives back then as he was now - he couldn't hit the biggest target we had when he first started out...and he used to stutter a little when he talked to people.
Stallion: ....bwa ha ha ha....that's great. *evil grin*
Aila: When he was small, too...he used to be shy.
Stallion: I can hardly imagine that now. Hugo is one of my dearest friends at the castle.
Aila: *nods* He's always been like a brother to me...I'm just happy to know someone for so long. Him and Chief Lucia - they're like family to me.
Stallion: Ah, I see how that is. *thinks, grinning* So...who's Jacques? I heard his name bandied about with yours.
Aila: *blushes* He...he was someone that was in the 12th with me. He's an archer, too.
Stallion: Do you like him? He isn't around in the castle is he?
Aila: I...*her face reddens by the second*...I liked him, but...he's been gone for a while now.
Stallion: Well...I suspect that this place draws back Stars when we least expect it. So perhaps your archer gentleman will make an appearance someday.
Aila: Well...he comes and he goes. If anything, he's more like a [shooting] star...for a moment it burns, bright as any sun, and then it fades away quietly...
Stallion: He sounds like an interesting fellow, if a tad nomadic.
Aila: That's a good word. Nomadic. But...he's always been that way. Don't get me wrong, his comings and goings have saved us in the 12th on a few occasions, but it's not so good when you finally get to a point when you want to be in one place, around people you're familiar with. And I'm rambling, aren't I?
Stallion: A bit, perhaps. But it seems like you have much affection for him.
Aila: Maybe, still. But as you said, he's nomadic...I said that right, yes? I like travelling, but I also am happy that I have somewhere to come home to and friends to come home to as well. It's why I came back from Caleria. Jacques...maybe he's not ready for that yet.
Stallion: I am quite nomadic myself, as I ran all the way from my old home to over here. But I think I like this as my home for now.
Aila: Where was your old home?
Stallon: The village of elves. Way in southwestern Toran Republic.
Aila: That's a long long way from here.
Stallion: Indeed it is. But running is what I do with this. *holds up his left arm with an unusual status rune attached to it*
Aila: *blinks* Oh, wow. I've never seen [that] rune before. What is it?
Stallion: In your tongue, it's called a "True Holy Rune" but it is not one of the 27. It is just hard to translate from elvish. It makes me run very fast and very far.
Aila: Ahhhh. In times like these, those skills would be useful.
Stallion: Indeed. I find it helps me out a lot.
Aila: Tell me...has it always been so...*tries to find a word*...uneasy here? For example, yesterday was pretty nice - I took a nap out by the lake and everything seemed so perfect, but today...I stayed in my room because something felt dark in the hallways today. It's why I didn't come by to see if you wanted to go have target practice - it just felt...like there were shadows out today.
Stallion: It is because of the presence of Fred who is not Fred. Landis is stalking him and one hopes can take care of him.
Aila: It's bigger than a lot of people realize. I think Nash had said that he and Hervey went after it, and that some of the people in the infirmary now have gone after it. It...it's bigger than that.
Stallion: I've seen it before. And tried to fight with it and realized that it IS a lot more. Which is why I'm staying away from it.
Aila: Good idea. I've seen too many people be hurt by it. But...I just wish I could get rid of the shadows...it makes everyone afraid and unhappy.
Stallion: It does. It frets and gnaws away at the peace here. But I think its time may be almost done.
Aila: Do you think so? These...attacks have done nothing but increase since I've arrived here. I mean, I've even bumped into Fred myself...how could you be so sure that it's time might be at an end?
Stallion: It's a guess and a hope, really.
Stallion: But...it's getting to a point where something WILL happen one way or another.
Aila: I can only share your hope. Even so, we all should be very careful.
Stallion: *nod* I agree. Until it's settled, it's best not to take chances.
Aila: I agree. It's just weird to be so...confined?
