Since my flight out of Sydney's been delayed I figured it would be a good time for a little entry. I think one of the bigger factors which has led to my logging entries stopping a lot over the past few months is that in my new office, with it's hot-desking and open plan, is a very difficult place to have any privacy in terms of what one has on their computer. Now while it may seem this is forcing me to be somehow more "effective" what it really means is that I now tend to take longer breaks away from my desk.
I would love some day to have a non-desk bound job, how do people get those? I've been stuck sitting as a profession so long that I have no idea how to shift into something else.
Anyways, reason I was in Sydney was for a training course at work. It gave me a chance to see the city more than I have in the past and also catch up with a few fellow escapees from New Zealand. The range of opinion of those who have left Auckland is interesting, some would never go back while others would love to given the opportunity. I think I'm somewhere in between, as I still don't think that Australia will be my home forever but am not ready to run back to Noo Zilnd.
Also this weekend we're finally moving into the new house. While it may not have a kitchen with the flooring and such being done we can finally move our stuff over. As for finishing the kitchen it will be sorted in another week or so, we can cope in the meantime.
As well I've now got plane tickets to head to Fredericton to visit family in May. It's strange but I'm actually looking forward to it, I suspect that it must be a factor of getting older that I no longer feel quite as irritated regarding my home town as I once did. While it's still a small town in the middle of nowhere I get that the sense of familiarity and comfort one can get there is very worthwhile. Of course I don't think I'd ever live there again, but it's not the oppressive Village of the Damned I once felt it to be.
