some prep school kid on collar popping:
It's more than style, it's tradition and style. School ties and navy blue blazers. Crew team and weekend permission slips. Stiff teachers, and stiff collars.
I do feel strongly about the popped collar. Popping the collar claims a certain pedigree, if you will. Popping a collar without having gone to prep school is like wearing pilot's wings without having ever been in a plane. As popping becomes more popular, it means less and less. The frat boys who walk around sporting reef sandals, madras shorts (most of them don't even know what madras is) and pink lacostes with popped collars? Gimme a break. Where did you prep, Chip? These guys never wore a blue blazer to class in their life.
It's a real pity, Liam. Popping the collar has become so common lately that I've had to resort to a little stylistic overture my friend Preston and I created back in prep school -- we popped two collars. Sadly, I don't think I'll even have that much longer. Soon, however, the fad will pass, and the upright adornment will be returned to those to whom it truly belongs. The elite, the arrogant, the educated.
