This week was an interesting one at work. I was basically flying solo the entire time I was on shift. Right now I am working nights, which means I am the ranking officer at night. I am in charge from when the Supervisor leaves at 10pm until when the admin staff arrives at 6am. A few months ago we had a Supervisor retire and that has left a few small shortages. The Sup I work with on the back end of the week is the one who is teaching me to surf (we resume lessons in a month). This week he took a couple of days off, so I was the ranking officer (it's called "Watch Commander") the entire time I worked. Normally whenever a Sup is on they are automatically the W/C but with no Sup it's up to the Night Senior and the Admin Senior to decide who's in charge. Since the Admin Senior had to handle things during the day it was only fair I take it at night.
It was a strange occurrence that probably won't happen again as a new Sup will be coming in soon, but I couldn't help notice that I had to run the show my entire time at work this week. Thankfully, there were no major problems of note, and barely any minor ones. I have handled big problems before, so even if something went down I would probably be able to take care of it.
It's nice to be able to get busy to take your mind off your problems.
