employment

So I was out for drinks with a friend last night and we got into talking about how dissatisfied I am with the way my career/job situation is at the moment.  He said that he can probably get me a job doing what he does and I am very seriously considering it.  He drives a delivery truck for an organic produce company.

The pay is roughly the same but only working 4 days a week.  He assures me that he does a few hours of work a day, then goes home, slacks off, drinks beer, etc then comes back to work to clock out, getting him at least 40 hours a week.  If this is even remotely true, it would be a lovely change of pace to what I do now, as I am on my feet and usually busy most of the day.  He also gets medical, dental, vision etc and I think paid time off as well, NONE of which I get now.  The only thing that I would miss is the free meal every day, but with this I would get free produce every once in a while.

My only problem with the whole thing is that this job would be yet another dead end job.  The job (much like my current one) would in no way help me get a job that I might actually like to do in the future.  And, if possible, it would a notch below my current job in terms of respectability.  I am embarrassed to tell people what I do for a living now, and I think delivery driver would be worse than cook.

So in short, I would still be very dissatisfied with my job/career, but it would probably improve my overall quality of life to some extent.

What do you guys think?
