'He's a natural': Torchwood star John Barrowman delights audiences as he takes to the West End in drag

Torchwood star John Barrowman releases his inner diva as he takes to the West End stage as a drag queen.
The actor is barely recogniseable as he dons several revealing dresses to play Zara in comedy La Cage Aux Folles.
Following in the footsteps of Jason Donovan and Brian Conley who took on similar roles in Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Hairspray, Barrowman is said to have slipped into the part with ease, delighting audiences.

'He has really taken to his new role,' a source is quoted as telling The People.
'He did not hesitate to get into character and try on the costumes. He's a natural.'
The gay actor, who married his long term partner Scott Gill in 2006, recently revealed that a former boss once told him to keep his sexuality a secret.
In his autobiography I Am What I Am, Barrowman said he was told early in his career that he should pretend to be a straight man in order to achieve success.
Barrowman revealed that a gay producer was sent by his bosses to give him the warning.

He claimed the producer said: 'John, we wondered if you really wanted to reveal that you're gay? We think it might change how people feel about you.'
'The incident was even more offensive because they sent a gay producer to discuss this with me, as if somehow this would ease the blow.'
The I'd Do Anything judge says he has since received an apology over what happened but the incident had a profound effect on him: 'One of my explicit missions as an entertainer is to work to create a world where no one will ever make a statement like this producer did to me to anyone who's gay.'

Monday here at Mirror.co.uk's Showbiz Towers and we're coloured distinctly unsurprised that John Barrowman has made his stage debut in drag.
The Torchwood/I'd Do Anything/any primetime Saturday night TV show on the BBC-star has followed in the diamante stilettoes of Graham Norton, who played the role of torch singer Zara (real name Albin) earlier this year.
Unlike comedian Graham however, John has a background in musical theatre, so unsurprisingly, took to the boards like a duck to water.
The flamboyant star cast off the overcoat of Captain Jack Harkness to debut in the award-winning West End show at the weekend.
In another coincidence, he gets to sing I Am What I Am in the show, which also happens the title of John's autobiography, released just last month.

John also stars in the Doctor Who Christmas Day special in December - the last that will star David Tennant.
Called the End Of Time, it sees the return of John Simm as The Master, Catherine Tate as Donna Noble and the legend that is Bernard Cribbins.
John will also be in the as-yet-untitled episode due to be broadcast a week afterwards which sees the introduction of new Doctor Matt Smith - and fan favourite Billie Piper as Rose Tyler.
As massive fans, we can't wait for the new episodes of the new Doctor Who - and we might even be persuaded to check out Mr Barrowman in a frock while we wait.
