MY FAMILY

FRIDAY,BBC1,8.30pm

Hero Doc to rescue

It's the 100th episode of the familiar sitcom but the first time guest John Barrowman has ever been billed as 'The Doctor'... The star of Dr Who and Torchwood pops up as a dashing medic when Susan (Zoe Wanamaker) is stranded in a ghastly Albanian airportlounge and part-time pig-sty. The Doctor breezes in and retrieves her handbag from a fleeing bag-snatcher with a simple phrase in the local lingo.

Susan asks him what he said: "My Albanian's a little rusty," he admits. "It was either 'Try it and you'll regret it' or 'Let's make love like warthogs... ' But Susan is soon harbouring romantic thoughts and erotic fantasies herself, while the do-goodingDoc paints in his personal history of charitable works, underwear modelling and Olympic athleticism.

Meanwhile back home, Ben is bemused by the appearance of celebrity dentist Jeremy Livingston (David Haig) who has dedicated his new book to him.

Turns out he envies Ben his mundane, anonymous life, and over a boozy dinner Ben encourages him to give up the trappings of success. Jeremy then feels like jumping off the surgery roof...

That John Barrowman gets everywhere! Here he is helping the Harpers celebrate their 100th episode in the new series of My Family - which starts next month.

And it means (drumroll) John finally gets to play the Doctor... erm, but not that one. He is a dashing American medic who comes to Susan's rescue, left, when her bag is snatched.

She swoons at the handsome stranger but he turns out to be a bit dodgy, just like her husband.

And indeed the rest of the family. Enjoy!
