Just in case anyone missed the announcement on the "official" website, John is doing Friday Night is Music Night on 26 October 2007 which will go out live on Radio 2 that night. He is singing songs from the new album

Yes, it's very disappointing about the tickets. My friends and I are all gutted as we'd been eagerly anticipating this concert for ages. Well, we'd guessed he was bound to do one, ever since it was announced that he'd be recording a new album, as it was obvious he'd probably do a concert to promote it, lol! We then had it confirmed to us a couple of weeks ago, from Daniel Boys, after we met him in a bar after a show in London. He told us he was doing a concert with John (and Kerry Ellis) and told us the date and venue. One of our friends tried to book via the venue the very next day but was told that they don't deal with any concert bookings themselves. We didn't mention anywhere about what Daniel told us, as we weren't sure if he might have said it in confidence or not, as there hadn't been any official announcement of the gig at the point, as far as we were aware, and we thought there was bound to be one soon anyway. So we've just been waiting for an announcement and then, when there is, we learn the tickets are all gone anyway! Grrrrrr!
Ah well, lets just hope that John announces another "regular" (non-BBC related) concert, that fans can book tickets the regular way for, like with any gig. Cos it's a shame with this BBC one that the majority of people there won't even be John's fans as all the people who applied for and got tickets for the show did so ages ago, before even knowing who the guests were going to be! You'd think John would want to do a concert that his fans can actually attend, so lets keep our fingers crossed! :)
Btw, going back to Daniel Boys for a sec - anyone who has the chance to go and see him in the musical I Love You Because - GO!! lol. You wouldn't be disappointed, it's such a fun show, with a great cast and fun songs, plus it's in a tiny pub venue in Clapham with a great, intimate atmosphere. Anyone else on here been to see it yet? It ends in a few weeks as it's only a very short run. Hope it transfers to the West End, it sure deserves to. :)
Totally agree. Very annoying and somewhat surprising John isn't doing one his fans can attend, although I guess he thinks widespread radio coveage is maybe a better bet to get non fans to maybe buy it.
I saw Daniel in I love you because a couple of weeks ago and going again in a couple of weeks. Not sure its got the legs to transfer to the West End myself but really enjoyed it all the same. Acoustics not so good though.

Well I assume they'll be fans of the show and of good music and if they're not JB fans when he finishes, I'll be surprised. But I don't think we can expect John to not want to do live shows his fans can't attend. You go where the opportunities are, and this show is for radio, not for the live audience. They're only there to add atmosphere.
I think you are missing the point here. Fans almost certainly would have been in a position to apply for tickets had people been told about it in time. Not everyone would have got tickets and of course some of the audience will already know and like John and will enjoy music or they wouldn't be there.
I doubt it was intended that his fans couldn't attend. Its not a closed show as far as I know...and as I said that's not the point. No-one is having a go at John or Gavin for arranging for him to do a show at a small venue.
By the way, don't assume just because they hear John sing they will become fans. I know plenty of people who have heard him sing and are not fans...some don't qctually think he's very good. I doubt the bland selection of songs on the new CD will change that or turn hoards and hoards of music lovers into great fans.
