I was disappointed that the official site and group didn't get the usual heads up for this gig, but I presume it was for reasons beyond their control. I suppose those who managed to get that information in time to buy tickets kept it to themselves! :-(

I'm holding out for whatever draw or lottery will be used for allocating the few tickets the group might get, but it's a shame it wasn't advertised publically well before sales - then we'd all have an equal chance!

The tickets weren't on sale. They are free and are allocated by BBC Studio Audiences to people who want them. As far as I can see NOONE either on the official group or part of the wider Torchwood fandom has managed to get tickets so it wasn't a question of a few mean spirited folk keeping the news to themselves. The tickets would have been issued to anyone who wanted them long before John's appearance was announced anywhere ( ... )

I agree - we're the ones who'll buy his album! :-) Oh well.

I didn't realise that these were give-aways. I also noticed that the official listmaster was prompted into making the announcement after it had been mentioned by someone else on the list! :-)

I and a number of other people emailed the webmaster as soon as we heard to find out what had happened. I think this is what prompted his announcement. Clearly a hiccup in the system somewhere. I don't think anyone thinks anyone's been mean spirited.

Yes they were free through the BBC in the usual way.

Yeah, we'll buy the album, so there's no point promoting it to us! But think of all the people who don't know JB, who'll hear it on the radio and THEN go out and buy the album. Still bummed about no tickets, but trying to be rational here.

All the better that he has his fans cheering him at the venue then...
I can't magine the song selection will encourage anyone to rush out and buy it myself..and its not as if he hasn't done a fair bit of radio over the past couple of years. Furthermore, the ticket position - or more to the point the late announcement by the website (after a number of us had told them) has no bearing on the radio play - no-one is complaining he is on the radio I don't think.

Its not so much not having a ticket but having been denied the opportunity to get a ticket that annoys me...for a number of reaons I don't propose to go into here. Suffice to say that I do believe JB would want at least some of his fan base there and I doubt the current situation re tickets was in anyway planned. NOt everyone would have got tickets anyway, its a small venue.

I've read this thread with great interest! And I share the disappointment with those who wanted to buy tickets and can't. I also would like to go, but I think as JB supporters it's easy to forget that this is a BBC Event first and a JB event second. The BBC have been running these things for ages, and just because John is set to appear, they can't be expected to change the way they do things. I have a friend who's been to FNisMN before, and they've queued for ages and not got in! If the site has managed to secure tickets, I wonder how many other fans of "Stars" have had that chance? Gavin does look after John's fans and we're lucky that he does that ( ... )

No-one expects the BBC to change the way they do things that would be nonsense. One does expect that when the website holds itself up as all knowing that it actually should be such..and in my experience it is not or is often late with the news, the only thing is that to my knowledge this is the first time they have been caught out by not announcing soon enough for people to apply for tickets. I am sure most of us have enough experience of freebie tickets on the BBC to know its a pot luck thing. That's not really the point.

I am not going to debate the website further as I am very strong views on its official or otherwise status and how it does things which I don't think it is appropriate to air in an open forum. This time they have slipped up and they know it.

Guess it's pointless asking how you think they've slipped up?

But you have me intrigued..... so I have to!

Well rather than debating the relative merits or otherwise of the website, perhaps we should just be grateful that Gavin is prepared to try and get hold of some tickets now so that hopefully ar least some people will be able to go.
