Royal wee
John Barrowman will be better behaved when he meets the royals this time!
The last time John Barrowman met the royals, he ended up spending a penny in the bushes of Prince Charles' estate! "It happened when I did my cabaret show for Charles and Camilla at Highgrove. They are both charming," says the actor and singer. "My partner Scott sat on the table next to Camilla and he had a great time.
"Later, we went for a stroll through their gardens. About half a mile from the house, I realised I just had to pee. I said to the guards, who follow you everywhere, 'It's an organic garden!' and nipped off into a bush. They burst out laughing!"
But John will be keeping his trousers on when he sings the opening number and finale of the 78th Royal Variety Performance. He will kick off the evening by belting out the classic Feeling Good, and will also meet The Prince Of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall again!
"I was totally chuffed to be asked to open and close the show," admits John, who is now best known as Captain Jack Harkness in sci-fi drama Torchwood, but who previously starred in several West End musicals.
John, 39, is also looking forwardd to being reunited with old pals Take That, who will perform, along with stars such as Rod Stewart, Sugababes and Barry Manilow, at London's Coliseum theatre.
To close the show, which will be hosted by Jonathan Ross, John is planning a spectacular version of Danke Schoen - the song from the parade scene in cult movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off - in which he will emerge from a cake!
"I'd love to go back to the West End," admits John, "But I can't commit to anything until I know whether we're doing a second series of Torchwood!"
