(no subject)
Every few days or so, we have "Captain's Parties" or "Society Parties" or "Virtuoso Parties" - formal events in one of two locations that have the captain, the cruise director, and sometimes one or two other speakers take the stage while the party band - turned into a cocktail party band - plays the same ten songs every time. Because there's a slight lighting change with microphones, it's something we have to do - it's pretty easy but time consuming, so when there are two in the same night, we usually split them.
Last night, Boss Girl said she'd take care of both of them, which meant I'd be doing both of the production shows. As the crowd was leaving, we learned that the A Cappella guys would be singing during the party - I knew as sure as I know that water is wet and that Heath Ledger is dead (too soon?) that I'd find myself up there for the first one, but I never heard anything...
...until a half hour before their scheduled sound check. "Uhm...could you meet me upstairs at 4:30 for the sound check?"
"Sure..."
"Uhm - actually, I need to ask you if you could do the first party?"
"Sure." I wanted to ask if this meant that I would get out of one of the production shows, but that could lead into a topic I don't want the answer of - back when she was going to come back as PM #1 and I'd be PM #2, it was discussed that we would alternate shows, picking and choosing the ones we wanted. Now that she's Boss Girl and the new Sound Guy will be PM # 2, she may feel that she shouldn't run lights anymore and I don't want to hear her answer because it'll make me crazed. I'd much rather just find out that "Oh, I have to do the shows - AGAIN" and deal with it on my own than ask a question I don't want the answer to and have to hide my reaction.
Everything went fine and I even flirted with the pixie-ish Ship Photog girl during the party. Well, may be not flirted, I just told her she looked nice as she walked by.
So my split personalities...uhm...yeah...
