canon powers, skills, pets and equipment: Crocodile consumed the Suna Suna no Mi and has become one of the few people in the series to truly master his Devil Fruit. He is made of, can become, and he can manipulate sand and earth. Many of his abilities are reflexive, as all logias are - they are the element they consume and Crocodile is no exception to the rule.
From the One Piece Wiki Article:
Crocodile's basic move-set; all of his moves are generally in Italian and Spanish.
* Desert Spada (砂漠の宝刀(デザート・スパーダ, Dezāto Supāda, Desert Sword): Crocodile forms his right hand into a loose blade of fast-moving sand and then stabs it into the ground, extending it along the ground like a torpedo, splitting anything in its path, including the very ground itself, through extreme and focused erosion, created by the sand-blade. When he used this on top of King Cobra's palace, the attack also generated a static surge that ran with the blade, nearly hitting Luffy in the process. "Spada" is the Italian word for "sword". Similarly, "Espada" is Spanish for a rapier-type sword.
* Desert Girasole (砂漠の向日葵 (デザート・ジラソーレ), Dezāto Jirasōre, Desert Sunflower): Crocodile creates another loose sand blade from his right hand with Desert Spada. Like Desert Spada, He stabs it into the ground causing an area in front of him to collapse. However, a giant pit of quicksand will be formed instead, with the sand being taking away by underground rivers (which he can detect). Anything caught in the pit will be sucked in and buried alive. This attack can only be done in a desert terrain. "Girasole" is the Italian word for "Sunflower".
* Barchan (三日月形砂丘 (バルハン), Baruhan, Crescent-Shaped Dune): Crocodile swings his right arm forward while leaving a crescent shaped trail of sand behind it. Anything hit by that trail is instantly robbed of all moisture because of Crocodile's dehydration ability. A "Barchan" is a crescent-shaped sand dune.
* Sables (砂嵐 (サーブルス), Sāburusu): Crocodile summons a massive tornado of sand and sends it on a rampage. Once this sandstorm grows large enough, not even he can stop it. A variation of it is seen when Crocodile makes his first appearance in the Arabasta arc. He makes a sandstorm that can suck the water out of living things and is apparently able to crack steel. "Sable" is French for "Sand" so the term "Sables" can mean "Sands", but it can also refer to a "Sandstorm". "Sable" is also Spanish for "Saber".
* Ground Seco (干割 (グラウンド・セッコ), Guraundo Sekko, Ground Drying): Crocodile places his hand on the ground and uses his dehydration ability to dry out a huge area around him, turning it into a desert wasteland. When he does this, it also can cause the area around him to crumble and cave in, causing unfortunate foes to fall to their death. "Seco" is Spanish for "Dry".
* Ground Death (浸食輪廻 (グラウンド・デス), Guraundo Desu): An extremely strong version of Ground Seco. However, Crocodile not only dries up the ground, but anything and everything on it including people and even buildings, all of which is transformed into sand if it has steady contact with the ground. The speed at which things dry also seems to increase.
* Desert Encierro (デザート・エンスイエッロ): Crocodile grabs someone with his right hand, then slowly or quickly drains the moisture from them with his dehydration ability. This leaves them in a withered state. "Encierro" is the Spanish word for "Imprisoning".
* Sables Pesado (砂嵐『重 (ぺサード), Sāburusu Pesādo), Heavy Sands): Crocodile gathers a swirling mass of extremely dense sand in his hand, then hurls it at his opponent, causing a massive shock wave upon impact. "Sables" is French for "Sands" and "Pesado" is Spanish for "Heavy".
* Desert la Spada (砂漠の金剛宝刀 (デザート・ラスパーダ), Dezāto Rasupāda, Desert the Sword): An altered version of Desert Spada. Crocodile now forms several solid blades with fan-shaped edges instead of one large blade made from sand. This is the only time Crocodile has formed solid objects out of sand, although a sufficiently powerful blow will shatter it back into sand. In the eighth movie, rather than being four solid blades, this move is more like two buzz-saw like blades that are less solid.
The only other prowess Crocodile has mastered is that of hand to hand combat. Even with his left hand missing, Crocodile has the ability to fight efficiently with the gold hook he had made to replace his severed hand. The hook is composed of a very solid gold alloy and the top of it can be removed to reveal a second hook. This silver, more brittle alloy has been filled with an extremely toxic scorpion venom that Crocodile uses as a last resort. Even if that is destroyed, a blade can be extended from the golden ball and used as a final weapon in a fight.
Like all Devil Fruit users, his weakness is water - he cannot swim, or he'll sink and he's far more vulnerable when he comes into contact with water. Seastone will also zap his powers.
canon history: Canonly, there isn't much known about Crocodile. Rumors of the series conclude that he used to be a very free-spirited man, ambitious to a point, but very well rounded personality wise. He had a good demeanor towards life and his goal was to become King of the Pirates, since the slot had been emptied after Roger's execution in Loguetown.
But something went wrong along the way; there are hints that he may have encountered Whitebeard during his voyages. There are also hints, especially as of late, that he had been in touch with the Revolutionary Army, as Emperor Ivankov seems to know him pretty well. Whatever happened, however, he ended up losing his left hand, his optimism, and he was given a scar that stretches from one side of his face to the other. The only positive note about his background was that he was dubbed one of the seven Shichibukai, private pirate warlords that are sanctioned by the World Government.
But Crocodile didn't stop there - he still had ambition and a lust for power clouded what used to be a fairly even tempered man. He based his operations in Alabasta, a sand kingdom. Since he ate the Suna Suna no Mi, he was able to turn into, become and be sand. Thus, Alabasta was a great home base.
After years of meticulous studying and gathering of estranged people, Crocodile developed the crime syndicate known as Baroque Works. They were composed of pirates and bounty hunters alike and their main objective was a plan called Project Utopia; here, Crocodile would snatch the kingdom by using both the rebel forces in the area and the royal court. He would pit them against each other, then claim the land as his own. He was also interested in stealing the fabled weapon Pluton from King Kobra's clutches.
Running a casino to fuel his plans, Crocodile remained pleasant to the public and often saved them from straggling attacks from rogue pirates. In doing so, he gained more and more support. But everything would quickly fall apart with the coming of Luffy and his pirates - teaming up against him do to their love of Vivi, the Straw Hats slowly and surely brought Crocodile's empire to the ground and even after his plan was almost concluded, Crocodile was defeated and carted off to Impel Down.
There, he rotted in the lowest level of the prison - here was where they kept the most dangerous of inmates and those destined for execution or a life sentence. Crocodile remained here, hook repaired. The wardens had him boiled before throwing him in the locker and he was one of two men to never say a word about it. He only smiled.
Fortunately for Crocodile, Luffy ended up destroying part of Impel Down to get to the Ace and the two of them teamed up. An odd alliance and one Crocodile seemed casual about. With the help of a band of rouge pirates, Crocodile was released from prison and he made his way over to Mariejoe, where the war with Whitebeard was taking place.
Here is where he comes to Silent Hill - during the middle of his battle with Diamond Jose, Crocodile is smacked in the face with a body full of diamonds. Doflamingo asks to hook up with him; Crocodile is firm in telling him off by sending a sandstorm in the Flamingo's direction.
After that, Crocodile doesn't show up again until the execution of Portgas D. Ace is underway; right before the blades come down on Ace's neck, Crocodile blows the two executioners away claiming that the sight of the Government so happy makes him ill. After this explanation, his head is removed by Doflamingo who says that he is jealous that Crocodile refused his offer and, instead, turned to Whitebeard.
When Crocodile's skull reforms, he claims he is helping no one. The two of them continue their personal fight.
personality: First and foremost, Crocodile is a smarmy bastard. He's cruel and cunning, but uncaring and cynical; people are pawns and the world is a chess game. All he needs is to lead the people on while he makes a move for a checkmate.
To say he is evil isn't giving him much credit; he's diabolical, an evil genius and a ruthless tyrant. His reasons for doing things are for his own benefit and for his own, well, dreams, I suppose you could say. Once a man of high hopes, Crocodile has become very jaded with the world and finds power in weaponry, war and bloodshed.
But he is cunning and he's good at putting on a public face. Crocodile, despite his malicious nature, has a uncanny ability to plan ahead and to get the masses on his side. His coy expressions and his willingness to kill and work on behalf of the public good make it oh-too-easy to trick and fool people. And oh, does he find he enjoyment in that as well.
Sir Crocodile finds satisfaction in the suffering of others - there is something wholly enticing about it for the man. He likes to drain hope from people and he also enjoys seeing how far a person/group of people/country will go until he/she/it breaks. It's actually one of his favorite pass times!
To say that this Warlord of the Sea is cruel is an understatement. The reasons behind his actions are simple - they are to satisfy him and to satisfy a hole left behind by a time where he used to be, well, just a regular pirate with the hopes of being the pirate king. This is somewhat speculation, however; Crocodile could have been just the same as a pirate captain. The author of the series has hinted, however, that Crocodile used to be a different man kind of man.
Quirks;
Crocodile has his quirks, just like many other characters in the show. He's a tobacco smoker by nature and he has a keen love for cigars. By that's just a physical quirk. In terms of his personality, he does enjoy watching his enemies suffer and almost always, he has sort of long drawn-out plan for a death. The use of time in his plots and his killings is, I suppose, a quirk as well. However, this kind of elaborate set up is usually saved for someone of interest.
why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? Crocodile is a natural-born organizer and planner; he is meticulous about things, even if those things tend to be seedy. He would be the kind of man that would work on a way of "bettering the people" with the full intention of bettering just himself. He's a man who has played the politician's game and he's very good at getting people to trust him and or owe him a great debt.

[There's a harsh breath on the other side of the line; it bubbles up on the feed, like someone who just got the wind knocked out of them.] Is this your doing, Kuma? I wasn't done with that bird. But I suppose you're far too modified to even realize your mistake -
[There's a loud scrape, like metal tearing into a wood frame.] - Tsk. If this is a pity handout, I'll pass. I have no need for the charities of other men.
[The feed crackles to life with a peculiar sort of sound; it sounds like the light gusting of air, but it seems littered with something. The feed grows to muffles static as relentless interference batters against the recording. It all stops within a few minutes, however. What does come through the feed is the clipping of heels against a hard surface.]
Or, is this something else entirely? Not your doing, Tyrant? Then to whom to I owe the blame? [The voice is soft, but stern. The clicking of heels continues; it sounds like whoever is being recorded is pacing. It abruptly stops and the voice hums.]
Oh? Now what are you? [The recording bumps; looks like the man found out he's being taped.] Fascinating; something new. Perhaps my previous assumption was correct.
Is this thing transmitting? Anything alive or at least breathing out there? Perhaps you could spare me seconds of your time and provide some answers.

The last body had fallen, fingers outstretched like tanning leather. They dug into the floor boards and gold eyes watched as bone peeled away under dry and cracked flesh and the deed was done. No more residents to interrupt the calling of the court.
And what a court it was; a Whitebeard commander, a Marine Commodore and a former Shichibukai. The Gods would be laughing if they weren't too busy paying attention to more important matters. Crocodile ran his hand through his hair, sliding it back. Smoke poured off a cigar, which he had saved since the late April month. He sucked on it, watched as the flame broiled in the thick darkness that shielded this particular shit hole on the outskirts of World's End. He sighed then and smacked a bottle of liquor onto an old table and slid his hook from the handle.
Rum. The good stuff and a perfect bargaining chip for the wanton Commodore. The liquid was dark as it sloshed in its imprisonment. Crocodile raised his hook and pulled the length of tobacco from his mouth. A tongue then flickered out, lapping the rich liquor off gold steel.
Not bad, he commended silently. Definitely something Smoker would appreciate, if not silently and hatefully.
The reptile hummed at the prospect. Three men against one tyrant; three men that should have been enemies. World's End was an odd place; it turned even the most hateful of foes to grumbling allies in a game of cat and mouse against the Gods and all other forces that World's End had in store for its kidnapped residents.
Crocodile rolled his shoulders in thought and his coat moved with him. Sand dribbled to the floor and he kindly placed a sheet of parchment down on the table. An ink bottle later, and he was drafting the contract.
Plans for the Character in this Setting: Crocodile plans to harvest the technologies of this world and the people in order to formulate his own power base in the area. If all goes well, he plans to move that back home if and when he can get there. Until then, he plans to play the usual role of a helpful warlord while gathering things to fit his needs.
Anything else?
Also, on the subject of adding powers - I know Crocodile is a pretty strong foe, but I was wondering if I could add the ability of giving him crocodile-like attributes in times of great need of stress. It probably wouldn't be more than a defensive measure, like if it's raining on a constant basis or if the mist is particularly thick. If this doesn't work for you guys, I'll keep him with his normal abilities if that is all right?
