I am so excited to be going to Denver this weekend for
Geek Bowl V ! I went last year and worked volunteered as a proctor. Which means I got to drink a lot of free beer (I had NO CLUE Fat Tire came in a can lol) while walking around The Gothic making sure no one was cheating. This year I will be checking in staff during set up and then running the merch booth with a quiz-mistress from Denver. She gets on my nerves but I'm hoping the free booze will cure that.
This is a video of the opening number of Geek Bowl IV from last year.
I was asked to dance with them. I come in during the Jai Ho dance at like 3:05. I'm the girl in the leopard sweater behind the guy with the mandriff on stage left, your right. The funny thing about this part of the dance is I was asked probably a month in advance to help out and learn it. So since everyone was up in Denver and there were 3 of us learning it down in the 505 I had to learn it from a youtube video that was emailed to me from Head Geek John Dicker and then teach it to everyone else. Being the procrastinator I am, I forgot about it until a week before. So I sat myself in front of the computer and wrote down each step and the counts on a piece of paper and learned the dance in one night. I then had to teach it to my husband and our friend in our tiny living room which was hilarious to watch. Later in the week we arrive in Denver and have rehearsal Friday night. After a few run thrus Dicker places me in front of the group to have everyone watch me (OMG pressure!). Thought I admit, it felt amazing that I taught it to myself in one night and was asked to be up front while everyone else had been having rehearsal for weeks. It's the little things that keep me going. :)
Geek Bowl was a blast last year and I am so excited to be a part of it again. Last year I got *really* sick at the end of the trip(which is another story itself) so I'm hoping that doesn't happen again. Unfortunately Eric is feeling under the weather now and I hope that he is feeling better by Saturday.
Ok time to do laundry and start packing! I'm try to remember to take pictures and use our new Flip camera. :)
