Have to write this before my mind will let me sleep.
There are more dueling thoughts: idealism v. rationalism
There is part of me that wants the fight for something that is doomed to failure, but fight nonetheless because it is the right thing to do.
Then the wolf sneaks out of his corner and snickering speaks "Dulce et Decorum est Pro patria mori." The old lie, believed by fools. Obviously such a thing would be folly.
The point still remains that you have to fight for some things regardless of the outcome.
