Ulm

Heute bin ich in Ulm. It's a smaller city, with smaller streets. I drove on the Autobahn in a shiny new Mercedes-Benz from the Munich airport here; the Autobahn wasn't as scary as trying to navigate these tiny Straßen und Gassen. The jetlag's finally gone, too. I'm doing my best not to be an ugly American, even though it's quite obvious that I'm a foreigner. And I'm doing my best to ignore the xenophobia (or is it just anti-Americanism?) around me. As I was looking around the Ulmer Münster, a German man loudly commented to his companian (in English, just to make sure I could here) what it shame it was that the British and the English bombed parts of the city. And as I was walking along part of the city walls, someone walking above me dropped a basketful of seeds on me. But for the most part, things have been going well here. The kind people at the hotel I'm staying at were welcoming, and I even managed to buy a pre-paid cellphone using a mixture of my broken German and their broken English.

Bis später.
