Someone on my reading list asked an excellent question, and I have one, too.

What is the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for you?

My car had broken down on the way to an event. It was the first time I had to deal with car issues after becoming single again - effectively the first time I was the one who had to deal with the car issues. I had gotten as far as pulling off the highway, and determining that nobody was home at the only house in sight. I was starting to spiral down into my brain shutting down out of panic of the unknown. Seriously, when under severe stress, I can wander and babble and stare into space and do absolutely nothing for serious chunks of time. Not an effective defense mechanism at all. It's the mental equivalent of biting your lip, and then having it swell up so you bite it again. (Needless to say, I've worked real hard on overcoming that programming.)

Anyway, shortly after I started to become a gibbering idiot, a limo driver happened by and pulled me out of my stupor. He asked what was wrong. He asked if I had AAA. I had actually just bought it, but my membership card had not yet arrived. But since he had it himself, he knew what number to call. He loaned me his cellphone and had me call AAA. Wonderfully, I was in their system, and was able to give them enough details to convince them I was me. So they sent me a tow.

In hindsight, he probably thought nothing of it. As far as he's concerned, he stopped and loaned me his cell. But if he hadn't stopped, I would have completely freaked out and lost it.
