There's a new drug on the market, 1.5% diclofenac (an ibuprofen-like anti-inflammatory) in a solution of dimethyl sulfoxide. Some may remember DMSO as an unapproved "underground" drug for musculoskeletal aches and pains in the 70's and 80's. It's apparently FDA-approved for osteoarthritis of the knees. But what really struck me was the unintentional appropriateness of the name: Pennsaid. An aid for injuries sustained at the Pennsic War, perhaps?

Well, no. It clearly stands for PENetrating Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug.

But still....
