Fielder is gone

Apr 03, 2008 12:22

For those of you who don't read the journal of Editrx, I wanted to let you know that our beloved red Abyssinian Fielder died just before 5 yesterday afternoon.

After an eight-month decline, his weight loss increased as he stopped responding to insulin. Tuesday he had a sort of rally and, despite serious trouble walking, he explored the house and did more than he had in many months. Yesterday he could barely walk. We thought his knee was out and took him to the vet, but she said the problems had to do with bad arthritis and the loss of muscle. She also declared that he was dying.

He went home, after a dose of painkiller, and spent the day napping. He may have had a stroke, based on a further reduction in his ability to walk. Half an hour after I last checked on him and gave him my love, he died. He was in bed with Editrx, his favorite human, and he went as he was sleeping. She called for me at once, but by the time I got across the house he was gone.

We miss him. Editrx has a few pictures in her LJ.
