Hundred-Watt Bulb

From this particular place, on my particular porch, the trees all resemble something from a pointillist piece.

Living on the edge of the greenbelt affords many small luxuries... experiences taken for granted by those of my neighbors too busy to slip outside their glass doors. Like all things in nature, the subtleties sink in slowly, between the concerns of overextended schedules and mundane "to-do"s.

Right now, however, the hundred-watt bulb which separates my home from my neighbors' is casting a sublime glow on the tops of the leaves. It serves to contrast the depths of the tangled mass which lies beyond my home. Everything is halved... the shadows of that vast wood are exaggerated. A deep darkness exceeds the picturesque veneer.

I feel as if I'm looking in a mirror.
