MIGNON - Live @ The Metro
Murder At The Metro:
Before the thrill of tonight’s performance can get going, one of London’s busiest roads is filled with the palaver of police and cordoning-off tape due to an alleged bomb scare in the area but hey, it can’t be denied that authoritative uniform and tape doesn’t set it’s own fitting prelude to what would follow underneath the city streets later that night. Fans wanting to enter ‘Blow Up’ (uncanny isn’t it) at the Metro club tonight are initially gutted as entry is denied due to a suspicious threat reaping terror and confusion up and down Tottenham Crt.Road. …(Did they know she was coming)?
Her third show, all in a matter of a few days in the UK and eager followers of Mignon would love to believe that their beloved mistress of rap, raunch and risqué was to be the cause behind this. Realistically however, I’m freezing my nuts off and heading towards the nearest pub to drown my sorrows. That is of course; until an hour plus two support bands later when the drama has died down, a petite pvc-clad vocalist led band ‘Brand Violet’ and Billy Corgan sound-alike (only with hair) ‘Super Inferno’ have provided the foreplay to the night’s climax …
Mignon fills and dominates an empty stage with her sexed-up horror show electro-antics. Demonic beats and slithering synthesisers crawl at her feet as she consumes and projects all the music’s hellish glory across the crowd. Unfortunately the shitty earlier event of the evening has left the floor of the metro pretty vacant, the fake-blood and spilt beer from sexually suppressed men being the exception. Regardless of this fact Mignon doesn’t fail to perform a scare of her own, charged with explosive dynamism, she entertains her fans and jawless middle-aged males who just wondered in for a quick pint for well over forty-five minutes.
The sinister electro pulses provide a havoc filled backdrop to which Mignon and her army of onstage minions such as the elusive Ingrid with scratch wounds adorning her chest or the fetishist vampire vixen with fanged teeth and ruby eyes holding a hunger for some rock ‘n’ roll debauchery. Michael Tewes, the single guitarist accompanying Mignon onstage teases the small crowd with his off-the-wall improvisations; off his leash and scratching at strings while costume changes occur, running to and from the cloakroom. Nurses and Nazi ensembles, fake knives and Freddy Kruger-esque gloves all get their turn greeted with much adoration. The entertainment here may present no expense but screw that- this is entertainment! It’s almost as if Rob Zombie had raised her from the dead and sent one too many bolts of electricity to the brain. As Mignon heightens the pace, her heels flying far off the floor she performs with gratification and that alone compels you to dance like the devil.
Already hailed as the sidekick to Peaches, Mignon is no mistake, making a name for herself. However tonight proves that she has the character and deadly, infectious talent to ensnare the world with or without her shiny pink hot-pant wearing super villain’s help.
All that’s left to say is that Universal domination awaits, Mignon the Merciless will recruit her army of roaches and we shall all breed to the beat.
