But nervous for Neil too. After the Oscars and the way the media spun that (plus the cold fish crowd reception) I really, really want this to be a huge hit for him. I don't want him to get discouraged and disappear from TV/movies the way some actors do.
Plus, based on what they've been tweeting it looks like he may be attempting to do some kind of crazy stunt tonight too!
Really? I was live tweeting during the whole show and doing # searches for the show, and while there were the inevitable negative tweets most of what I saw was overwhelmingly positive. I'd say it was at least 80/20 on the positive side, if not more. And the interesting thing is 99.9% of the negative comments were from men and a lot of them were for the same few guys repeatedly tweeting hate throughout the show. But I think that would be the case regardless of what Neil did. Some guys just don't like him. Personally, I think they're jealous he gets so much love from both sides!
Yeah, maybe it was just the comments I flicked through, I couldn't keep up with them all. But the things that were pounced on I don't think the viewer understood the point of the show.
Agree. The style of the show just isn't for everyone, admittedly. There are some people that just aren't going to "get" it, but I think it's loads of fun. It kind of reminds me of how on shows like The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, or Conan, or Jimmy Kimmel, the best parts are always the games they play, the little pre-taped bits, all the fun stuff before and between the interviews, and that's what Best Time Ever is entirely made up of.
The thing I'll never understand about internet trolls though is what they feel they get out of it. There are plenty of show styles that just aren't my cup of tea either, like the procedural CSI type shows or lowest common denominator sitcoms like Two and a Half Men or Big Bang Theory, but I have never once felt the need to go onto social media and write hate about them. I just figure to each his own, you know!
I thought the show was great. Absolutely crazy and frenzied and wild but in a fantastic way. I agree with Neil that a lot of the appeal of it is that it's all happening live. With things like the stunts in particular it's cool because it's happening right now and there's that Big Top circus thrill of 'are they going to pull it of?' or 'is someone going to get hurt?' that simply wouldn't be there if it was pre-taped because you already would have heard about it. I really enjoyed the undercover bits too.
There's certainly nothing like this on American tv, but I for one loved it. I love the fast pace and that everything is cut up into small segments. It felt like being at a giant party, and I wasn't bored for a single minute of it. In fact, when they said The End of the Show Show was up next I looked at the clock in shock because I couldn't believe it had already been an hour .
